TheCUBE: Breaking Analysis + upcoming episodes [What we learned from Supercloud 22]( Last week theCUBE gathered the IT community to discuss the new computing architecture dubbed "supercloud." In [this week’s]( Breaking Analysis, our analyst Dave Vellante reveals what he learned from [Supercloud 22]( including the five essential properties of a supercloud and three real-world deployment models. Snowflake Inc.’s Data Cloud is an example of a nascent supercloud, and Vellante poses key questions to test its “supercloud-ness” against the model that emerged from the [Supercloud 22]( event. Citing Snowflake co-founder Benoit Dageville and other expert speakers at [Supercloud 22]( Vellante examines Data Cloud’s architecture, security model, how it deals with latency across a global network, whether it has a "super PaaS" to enable a common developer experience, and other essential elements indicating supercloud status. More than one path to supercloud status Databricks Inc. is taking a different direction. Instead of a proprietary path, the company is supporting the development of the open-source Delta Lake standard. Comparing the approaches, Vellante introduces ETR spending data, of particular note given Snowflake and Databricks’ respective endeavors on Wall Street, and discusses Snowflake’s support for the open-sourced Apache Iceberg. “The similarities may be greater than the differences,” he concludes, quoting Ralph Nader.
