theCUBE's upcoming broadcasts & events [Harnessing AI as IT spending gradually improves]( In this week’s [Breaking Analysis]( theCUBE Research Chief Analyst Dave Vellante explores the current state of AI adoption and its impact on IT spending. AI leads all sectors in spending momentum, yet has not significantly boosted productivity or revenue for enterprises.   While IT spending is gradually improving, it remains constrained with a slight uptick to 3.7% expected growth in 2024. Key AI use cases include code generation, customer support and text summarization, but overall ROI remains limited due to barriers such as privacy concerns and budget constraints.   “Coming back to the budget constraints, this again is another indicator that gen AI ROI is not off the charts,” Vellante said. “The percent of customers reporting production use cases for retrieval augmented generation, or RAG for example, is in the single digits, low single digits in our latest survey from Enterprise Technology Research. It's another indicator of possible resource constraints.”    Future high-value AI projects, particularly domain-specific small language models, are anticipated to take longer to yield significant returns, with economic factors such as inflation and election uncertainties further influencing IT spending trends.
