The basis of the case is California’s nefarious “Parental Secrecy Policy” – which prohibits school staff from notifying a parent when a student changes his or her “gender identity.” If a student fails a course, skips class, or gets caught with drugs – mom or dad gets a phone call. But if teachers decide to facilitate a gender “transition” for a child—giving a child a new name, new pronouns, and new shared facilities like locker rooms—California officials don’t think mom or dad should know. She was denied the opportunity to have her daughter assessed by a licensed mental health professional, consult with a trusted pediatrician, or seek counsel from a church leader.
