It’s a working-class town between Cleveland and Columbus – and it’s where I grew up. [Sherrod in Boy Scout uniform]( I was raised by my father, a doctor, and my mother, a local activist who led the Ohio Hunger Task Force and YWCA. Together, they taught me the importance of hard work, community, and caring for your neighbors. [Sherrod with his two dogs]( I loved growing up in Ohio, and it’s why I still call it home alongside my wife, Connie, and our two rescue dogs, Franklin and Walter. It’s because of my parents and my love for this great state that I got into public service. I also believe that when you love this country, you fight for the people who make it work. [Sherrod speaking with contruction workers]( When I was growing up, everyday folks in Ohio could work hard and count on being able to own a home, support a family, and still save for a comfortable retirement. Over the years, we’ve seen the cost of living rise drastically while wages remain stagnant, all to protect big corporations and the wealthy 1%. [Sherrod sitting at a table in discussion]( Today, I'm fighting for progress on the issues that matter most to the hard working families in Ohio. That includes securing better wages, safer working conditions, affordable health care, Social Security benefits, reproductive rights, and so much more. I'm defending my seat with all I've got. Why? It's plain and simple: Because I care. But running for office wasn't a decision I made lightly. I know the great responsibility I have to my family, friends, community, and all Ohioans. The same can't be said for everyone who runs for office, friend. My self-funding opponent, Bernie Moreno, is trying to buy this seat to do Donald Trump's and Mitch McConnell’s bidding in the Senate. And unfortunately, it might be working: Recent polls show this race in a dead heat. Moreno's already spent $4.5 million of his own money to try and defeat me, and with experts saying this race could decide Senate control, GOP super PACs are pouring millions into Ohio, too. I’m running a true grassroots campaign, friend, which means I'm counting on you to help me protect this critical seat. That's why I have to ask: [Please, will you rush $26, my average campaign donation, or anything at all to help me beat Bernie Moreno and keep the Senate blue? I'm facing my toughest reelection yet, but with folks like you on my grassroots team, I know we can win.]( Please use the links in this email to start a monthly donation through ActBlue. [CONTRIBUTE $5 NOW]( [CONTRIBUTE $25 NOW]( [CONTRIBUTE $50 NOW]( [OTHER AMOUNT NOW]( Thank you for helping me continue to fight for the American people. [Sherrod]( This email was sent to {EMAIL}.
