The sky will be considerably darker, and the stunning visuals of the night sky that much clearer. While the season lasts from 7/24 - 9/01, as always, the peak will light up skies in the northern hemisphere from 8/11 - 8/13. In other interesting news, scientists have discovered that our [brain shape]( may matter more than neural connectivity when it comes to influencing our thoughts, actions, and emotions. But for one Florida family, that feeling of home slipped away when they faced the daunting prospect of homelessness. In a heartwarming TikTok video in March 2023, Mallory Ellis, the mom, bravely shared their heart-wrenching journey. Her husband, the family's main provider, had a near-death experience, but thanks to a significant surgery, he pulled through. The only problem was that he couldn't work for over seven months due to his medical condition, plunging them into a financial crisis they couldn't have foreseen. Despite Mallory taking on two jobs, the mounting bills were too much, and they eventually lost their apartment in January 2023. Leaving their cherished home behind was a devastating blow, as it held so many precious memories. Thankfully, a kind friend offered them a temporary room, but with the soaring rental prices in Florida, finding a permanent place to call their own became an unattainable dream. Their hardships didn't end there; they had to resort to living in a hotel, which was far from ideal. The daily check-in and check-out routine took a toll on the family, adding to their already heavy burdens. Yet, despite all the struggles, Mallory persevered in keeping a positive outlook for her young children, donning a brave smile to reassure them. A glimmer of hope emerged when their story went viral on TikTok, garnering hundreds of thousands of views and an outpouring of love and prayers. After a month of homelessness and her kids sleeping on a garage floor, the family finally received some good news. They found a house to move into, and Mallory captured the heartwarming moment she shared the news with her sons. The video is a tear-jerker. The sight of her younger child, overwhelmed and crying tears of joy and excitement, made all the hardships they endured worth it. The video touched the hearts of many, drawing thousands of comments from supportive users. It's a demonstration of the strength of the human spirit and a powerful reminder that even in the darkest times, there's always a glimmer of hope shining through. Next thing you know, you wake up to find yourself in the company of... mermaids! Yep, you heard that right. This isn't some fairy tale fantasy; it's a real-life story that happened to a guy named Pablo Avila. He was diving near Catalina Island when he passed out underwater. But as fate would have it, a mermaid training course was happening nearby at Casino Point on the same island. Just as Pablo's dive took an unexpected turn, Elle Jimenez, a 33-year-old trainer and professional mermaid performer from Miami, along with her students, were just finishing up their day. Suddenly, they heard cries for help coming from the open water: "Help! He blacked out!" Without a second thought, Jimenez and two of her students, donning their mermaid tails, sprang into action. With six years of diving experience and a certification from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), they were the only ones around who were qualified to carry out a rescue. By the time the mermaid trio reached Pablo, he was in a critical condition, foaming at the mouth. "I think we all just went into automatic mode — our rescue instincts kicked in," Jimenez recalled. With the help of their class photographer, Darren Joshua Leonardi, the women worked tirelessly to bring Pablo back to shore. They performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and waited for paramedics to arrive. After a tense rescue effort, Pablo was okay, and he even managed to crack a smile about the whole situation. “I’m proud of the way we handled the rescue. It was absolutely a team effort. I also feel a great sense of relief that Pablo survived, as I believe it’s rare to come back from needing full CPR to breathing, talking and smiling,” said Elaina Garcia, one of Jimenez's students. Jimenez, relying on her trusty mermaid tail for its efficiency and speed, had her mind set solely on saving a fellow diver. Since the incident, Pablo has fully recovered and is doing well. Looking back on the event, Jimenez remarked, "I think we were all meant for these roles and that moment proved we were exactly where we needed to be." 💗 [(Click here to read the full story)]( Quote of the Day 💭 “No matter how small you start, always dream big.” ― Stephen Richards On This Day In History…🗿 On this day in 306 A.D., Flavius Valerius Aurelius Constantinus Augustus was proclaimed to be the new Emperor of Rome by his troops. Today, he is known as [Constantine the Great](. Just 7 years after he was proclaimed Emperor, Constantine issued the Edict of Milan in 313 A.D. This edict granted “religious freedom throughout the empire and ended the persecution of Christians. This move marked a significant shift in Roman policy and had far-reaching implications for the development of Christianity as a major world religion.” - Some 1,550+ years later, American artist [Maxfield Parrish]( was born in 1870. The son of an artist, his rise to becoming the highest-paid artist in 1920s America seems like it was fate. - 24 years later, in 1894, [Walter Brennan]( was born and went on to become the only performer to win 3 Academy Awards for best-supporting actor. While he was mostly known for his lovable sidekick characters or “irascible old codgers” in Western films, it’s actually his early life history that is the most entertaining. Was he growing pineapples in Guatemala or lumberjacking in Swampscott, MA? No one may ever know.
