Image courtesy of 8machine_ / Unsplash [WiFi Routers Can Produce 3D Images of You]( Researchers at Carnegie Mellon University have achieved a remarkable milestone: using simple Wi-Fi routers to create 3D images of human poses and movements with the help of AI neural networks and deep learning. This proof-of-concept could revolutionize industries like healthcare, security, gaming (VR), among many others. Not only does it overcome issues associated with traditional cameras such as poor lighting or obstacles blocking lenses, but it also surpasses RBG sensors, LiDARs, radar technologies in cost efficiency and energy consumption. By using inexpensive routers, such as the $50 TP-Link Archer A7 AC1750, researchers were able to generate 3D wireframe images of several people in a room as WiFi signals collided with their bodies. More specifically, human 'interference' signals were monitored via the amplitude and phase of WiFi signals. âThe results of the study reveal that our model can estimate the dense pose of multiple subjects, with comparable performance to image-based approaches, by utilizing WiFi signals as the only input,â the researchersâ pre-print brief reads. WiFi perception technology comes with understandable privacy concerns. As facial recognition and IoT devices have become increasingly widespread, this new type of tech could be exploited by Big Data companies as well as cyber criminals, making us question the security of something seemingly innocuous like a WiFi router. Image courtesy of anirudh / Unsplash [Ai Designed Bacteria-Killing Proteins from Scratch]( Ali Madani and his Salesforce Research team are revolutionizing the world of medicine and biotechnology with ProGen, an AI that generates new proteins from 280 million existing ones. Similar to text-generating AIs, ProGen chooses specific groups of proteins to use as focus points and creates new protein structures by using a learned "grammar" for how amino acids combine. By implementing checks in its programming, ProGen narrowed down 100 molecules to five that showed intense chemical reactions in destroying bacteria in egg whites and saliva. Of those five, two of those proved very effective in destroying E. Coli. bacterium. This is only in the first sample of AI generated proteins! Through X-rays, researchers observed that the engineered proteins had nearly 30% deviations in their amino acid sequences while still retaining the shape of naturally occurring proteins. It was not immediately clear how the AI could make such broad changes and still keep the proper shape. Researchers said, âIt was sort of an âit looks like a duck, it quacks like a duckâ situation and X-rays confirmed it also walked like a duck." [(Click here to read the full story)](

Demonstrating magnetic field strength nearly one million times greater than that of the Earth's, these magnets can effectively control hot plasma during nuclear fusion, an achievement long sought after since scientists began researching nuclear in the 1950s. This advancement could unlock limitless power with little-to-no hazardous waste or fossil fuel usage. Fusion power has been described as "one of the most significant scientific challenges ever undertaken by humanity", and recent breakthroughs from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in achieving net positive gain via nuclear fusion have pushed us one step closer to a commercially viable energy source. Tokamak Energy's Demo4 project serves as a major stepping stone toward global deployment of compact, low-cost power plants and will help spur progress by continuously providing a core component of the fusion process.
