After suffering abuse, rescuers weren't sure how much life he had left to enjoy. They wanted him to experience all the love that comes with having a forever home before crossing into doggy heaven. But who would accept such an incredible challenge? Enter Rusty and Anna! Despite Hero's trust issues from past trauma, this brave couple stepped forward & welcomed Hero into their loving family, determined for every remaining day together to be filled with joy & happiness. When Rusty and Anna set out to love a new pup, they immediately felt drawn to Hero. His charming eyes seemed to be saying "Love me!" and the couple just knew he deserved a shot. However, before the adoption could be finalized, there was one big obstacle: Would their current dog, Sugar Bear, approve of Hero? Thankfully, Hero and Sugar became instant friends! Thes two pups had an undeniable bond that only grew stronger. Everywhere they went, Suger and Hero were always side-by-side, even sleeping in each other's company. Once Hero was comfortable in his new forever home, there wasn't the slightest hesitation in his affection-seeking ways. Getting petted was at the top of Hero's list! If he couldn’t get one person's attention, he moved on to the next by nudging them gently with his nose. What better reminder than a nose bump saying, “Hey I'm still here!" Hero was truly a beacon of light and love that brought Rusty, Anna, and Sugar Bear all together. Even after Hero's tough prior life, he could still open his heart for warm companionship and show unwavering loyalty. Hero would greet them with enthusiasm every time they came home and follow them wherever they went, even into the bathroom! And while Hero only spent three loving years with them before moving on to doggy heaven, those may have been the happiest years of his life. [(Full video)]( ANIMALS [Golden Retriever adopts his own kitten]( Imgur user "squishiepeachies" explains how it happened: "This is Crosby. He is the best good boy. About 6-months-ago, he lost his kitty friend, and just over a month ago, he lost his best doggo friend that he’s had as a companion since he was 8-weeks-old. Crosby has been pretty okay about being an only doggo, or so I thought...On Thursday I came home, and instead of our normal routine of Crosby howling with excitement to see me, he led me straight to the bathtub." squishiepeachies heard the meows first, and then saw the kitten in the bathtub! The doggy door to the house was too high for the kitten to sneak in by itself...so Crosby must have snuck the kitten inside! Strangely enough, the kitten resembled the kitty friend Crosby recently lost. Coincidence?... Squishiepeachies was determined to find out who the mysterious kitten belonged to, but after talking with neighbors and taking her in for a check-up, it turned out she didn’t have an owner. The vet mentioned the kitten would be put down if she was left behind due to space constraints (there were 300+ kittens at the county shelter). This harsh reality combined with squishiepeachies's love for Crosby - whose only wish had been to get another kitty companion - led to Raina Lil Ray-Ray (name chosen by squishiepeachies' high school students) being adopted! “I guess Crosby didn’t like being an only doggo after all," says squishiepeachies. [(Full video)]( ANIMALS [Owl mama lost her babies but ‘adopts’ orphaned chicks]( Robert E. Fuller is a British wildlife photographer and artist based in Thixendale, North Yorkshire, UK, who rescues animals including orphaned or lost owlets (baby owls). One of these rescued owls was named Luna who, over the years, grew to be a healthy adult due to the welcoming care and love of the existing owl community. Luna was healthy enough to raise her own owls and she tried for 2 strenuous years, but not only did her eggs not hatch, she lost an entire batch of eggs the previous year. Thankfully, Fuller was able to find a way to make Luna a mother. “I regularly place orphaned or lost owlets into tawny owl nests and these birds accept the young chicks as their own. Their urge to protect and nurture is strong," says Fuller. He found two owlets in need of care, placed them into Luna's nest, and waited for her return, praying she would open her heart to the young birds as if they were her own. As he hoped, Luna immediately took to the two little babies. Fuller couldn't contain his joy as he watched Luna peek her head in, immediately swoop in, and take care of those two precious little owlets. She snuggled them under her wings and made sure they were warm and safe. “This means that after a long wait, Luna the tawny owl is finally a mum,” Fuller wrote.
