This week: horse symphony, Officer "Batman", and Ron Howard's couple goals Hi everyone! To start,

This week: horse symphony, Officer "Batman", and Ron Howard's couple goals [View this email in your browser]( Hi everyone! To start, we’ve decided to switch up our scheduling a bit. We realized that people could use a lighthearted pick-me-up in the middle of the week. Moving forward, we’ll be sending our Faith & Joy series on Wednesday to help everyone get past the mid-week hump! Similarly, we want everyone to be heading into the weekend with renewed energy, vigor, and positivity. As a result, our Hope & Optimism series will now be delivered to you Friday mornings. We’ll also be skipping this week’s H&O issue in anticipation of the holidays. Hope everyone gets to relax and take time off to be with loved ones! This Week's Top Stories [:newspaper:] ANIMALS [A symphony of sleeping horses]( Nowadays, it seems like people don’t have many encounters with horses. So many of us live in major cities, far away from the open lands that horses needs to roam and live. When we do come across horses, they’re usually well trained, composed, and have a certain grace about them. That’s why it’s so funny when we see their goofier sides! Liz Mitten Ryan (author, artist, and animal communicator) posted a video of her horses sleeping and they were anything but peaceful and quiet! It was quite the symphony - horses were snoring, groaning and even farting! You could tell that these horses felt completely safe in their environment and were well taken care of. Horses usually prefer to sleep standing up since their legs are designed to hold their weight. Some will will occasionally lie down but only in environments of absolute trust and safety. Their sleep patterns also differ, sleeping only when they need to and mostly in short durations at any and all times of the day. It’s funny how sleep brings out our most vulnerable moments, getting even the best of us! [(Full video)]( SMILES [Officer “Batman” lies on the sidewalk to reassure the local kids]( “Gotham has Batman. Metropolis has Superman. Wakanda has Black Panther. And South Hill, Virginia has C.B. Fleming.” He doesn’t have utility belts or cool gadgets, but the neighborhood kids still think of him as Batman. 42-year-old Fleming was dispatched for a gas leak in South Hill, Virginia when he showed what his service is all about. After inspecting Iesha Roper-Boswell’s home and ensuring that the environment was safe, he had a conversion with the 28-year-old mother who explained that her daughter, niece, and mostly all of the neighborhood kids were afraid of the cops. Immediately upon hearing this, Fleming headed over to the sidewalk, lied down on the sidewalk, and started playing with the children for the afternoon. Iesha says “it’s just amazing, the bond he has with the children. For him to make my child feel like she’s safe, she doesn’t even have to call 911, she just has to call C.B. if she’s in trouble. I’m glad he made this part of his job. He’s changed my daughter and niece’s lives.” It’s phenomenal how attitude and commitment makes all the difference in perception. Fleming is a father to four biological children and two adopted kids. He’s been a cop for the last 15 years and has made it his personal goal to be viewed as a positive influence in the community. “When I got into this job, I knew there was something different, other than just writing tickets and being the bad person all the time. I figured if I could be that bright spot in someone’s day then that’s all that mattered.” Let’s go, Batman! [(Full video)]( SMILES [Ron Howard married high school sweetheart in 1975 and they’re still deeply in love]( Nothing like a great love-at-first-sight story to help us restore some faith in love! Actor, director, and producer extraordinaire Ron Howard has been with his wife, Cheryl Howard, for the last 47 years, ever since they first met in the 11th grade! Of all of his achievements and victories in life thus far, the woman he’d spend the rest of his life with may be Ron’s biggest win yet! The 68-year old Hollywood celebrity had an instant connection with Cheryl the moment they met eyes. It was a young love, but the feelings were true. Recently, Ron recalls their first date in 1970 in his Instagram post showing the two of them hugging each other sweetly with large smiles. You can see the genuine love in their eyes, even after almost five decades together. Although they have four children, the couple still makes the time to go out on dates and have fun together. They’ve had all sorts of adventures with each other, from spending a night out in London to walking the tropical forests of Queensland. We’ve all heard the negativity around divorce rates and failing relationships over the last few years so it’s great to get a breather and see these role model couples remind us what human connection, trust, and love are all about.
