[Ants hold funeral for dead bee?](
Compassion or biological instinct? The phenomenon of ants seemingly holding a funeral service for dead bees has happened more than once. In this video, thereâs a bumblebee dead on the gravel surrounded by purplish flower petals. When you notice the petals start to move, you realize there are ants underneath that are carrying them towards the bee. The woman who took a video of this strange event said it looked like âsome sort of bee funeral.â Turns out ants may not be as compassionate as this confusing event makes them seem. According to IFL Science, despite appearances, ants are not âgiving the bees a dignified send-off.â Due to the complexity of ant colonies, pheromones are used to communicate a variety of messages and intents ranging from walking trails, alerts of danger, or even death. It makes sense that ants may also be sensitive to the chemical signaling of other animals. For these dead bees, their corpses may be communicating something the ants, leading to the antsâ floral response. For alternative theories, the ants may consider these dead bees to be food and are actually covering it up to prevent other scavengers from stealing it away. Itâs also possible that the bees signaled the ants to tidy up via necrophoresis to keep their colony areas tidy. Necrophoresis is the act of carrying away dead bodies to a dedicated tomb area and some colonies have specialized undertaker ants for this task. Regardless of the actual underlying reason, itâs definitely a spectacular event to witness. Personally, we prefer the more compassionate theory so we can use it as a reminder for ourselves! [Owl screeching like a witch on broomstick object](
For Halloween, this owl decided to dress up as a witch! Or did a witch decide to play an owl? In Eureka, Illinois, Eric Lind was able to capture photos of a great horned owl flying around with a stolen stick horse toy. From the silhouette, it almost looks like a witch flying on a broom! Lind was able to snap a photo of the bird (or Animagus, polyjuice potion, or transfiguration spell gone wrong) after a neighbor excitedly called them to look out their window at the backyard pine tree. When he realized what he was looking at, he posted a notice to the neighborhood saying âCurrent situation at my parents houseâ¦the young neighborhood owl has stolen this stick horse and is flying around the neighborhood with it. Hilldale/Forest Park/Ridge lane neighborsâ¦if your child is missing their stick horse, youâll have to talk to the owl!â While some were concerned that the owl was distraught, Lind said the owl didnât seem to be in any danger. As far as he could tell, the owl was willfully flying around the stick, even changing postures and grip multiple times. Talk about festive spirit! [(Full video)](

[Farmer shares two-ingredient recipe to get rid of mice and rats](
Whether or not you have an existing rat problem, this is some great knowledge to store in the back of your mind! Locals also have a knack for coming with brilliant home remedies for the problems that plague them, and this resourceful farmer is no exception. Jerry Hanson runs the Pine Meadows Hobby Farm in the Cascade mountains of Oregon. Heâs savvy on YouTube, with ~90k subscribers (at time of writing), and has come up with a simple two-ingredient rat repellent to get rid of those rats once and for all! How do you make his concoction? All it takes is baking soda and cornbread mix! Mix them equal parts inside of tupperware containers and cut a hole large enough for rats to crawl into. Why does this work? Turns out that rats canât fart or burp, meaning that when the baking soda expands inside of them, thereâs no escape and the gas ends up killing them. People who have been struggling with rat problems have flocked to this video and given it praise. Some individuals wanted to find solutions that were safe for other animals with one commenter saying,â Glad to find this video, Jerry. I had been looking for something that would be safe for other wildlife, especially the hawks and owls that might eat the rodents. Happy to have found this natural solution.â For more of these ingenious home tips and tricks, check out the rest of Jerryâs YouTube channel!
