Follow this Sometimes it might feel like you’re facing an insurmountable challenge. Like the goal you’ve got in mind is just TOO massive or difficult to conquer. I know how you feel. And it’s disheartening to constantly feel like you’re never quite there. Maybe you feel like you’re a million miles away. Or maybe it feels just out of reach. Maybe you’ve tried for years and sometimes you’ve gotten close, other times you’ve missed by a mile. Right now I’ve got two massive goals for my life. - Launch a video that gets 10,000 views in a week on YouTube - Get a bar muscle up If you don’t know what a bar muscle up is, it’s a gymnastic movement where you do a pull up but then you keep going and you can move your whole body over the bar. It’s supposed to be a foundational gymnastic movement that most beginner gymnasts can do. I am not a gymnast which is why this particular movement evades me. And it was only recently that I wanted to launch a video that did 1000 views in a week (which at the time felt almost impossible). And then the strangest thing happened. I released a video that I thought would do well and lo and behold - it did super well. In fact it did a little over 4000 views in the first 7 days. I have NEVER had a video do that well before. And that video took almost 18 months of learning, releasing videos, practising and more learning. I released 50 videos between having the goal of getting 1000 views in a week, and achieving that goal. And each time I failed, I thought it was because I hadn’t understood something or there was some magic hack that I needed. Each time my videos flopped, I would turn to a new “guru” and hope that they had the answer. But deep down, I knew that my videos were failing because of one reason. I wasn’t producing something that was interesting. My offer sucked. In my defence, I never set out to create video ideas that were bad offers. And I also believe that in releasing content that doesn’t work, you’re testing what offers do work and what don’t. I now have a list of 50 things that don’t work. But for whatever reason, one of my latest videos, “clicked” and it connected with people. Over 4000 people (and growing each day). So does it sound unreasonable to find a topic that resonates with 10,000 people? What about 100,000? This goal now feels insurmountable. But so do all goals. That’s why they call them goals. If they felt easy to do, they’d be called steps. And I’m pretty clear on what I need to do. Replicate what works, create hyper-compelling and interesting ideas, set massively high expectations and deliver on those expectations. I know my audience is funnel builders and agencies, so I double down on what subscribers like you want to see. There’s no way I could have “thought” my way to the best video I’ve ever produced. Too many people try to get a bullseye on their first shot, thinking and planning and strategizing. It might look like everyone else does it effortlessly (they’re not by the way). But you can’t do that - even though, as I said, they’re actually not effortless and they have practised more than you’ve even tried. For most of us, hitting goals means failing. Failing every day and every week until we hit the goal. The key is to keep the goal the same and change the method. And then one of these days, with a ton of practice every day, and deliberate practice, I’ll get that muscle up. P.S. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
