Plus: [How to Finally Overcome Your Fear of Flying]( If you are unable to see the message below, [click here to view](. [SELF Cares]( Today, we're talking about... Adulting Ever since I turned 40 earlier this year, I’ve been thinking more and more about what it means to be an adult. Of course, it means different things to different people and honestly, it means different things to me from one minute to the next. But something I’ve been feeling pretty consistently is that being an adult means sometimes feeling very old and sometimes feeling very young. When I can’t wrap my head around a meme or how an app works, I think, “Pop culture is passing me by; I am well and truly an old.” The next minute I look at a stack of paper that needs filing or think about the doctor’s appointments I need to schedule, and think I Just Don’t Wanna and You Can’t Make Me. And look, feeling old and feeling young can also be great—helping a younger friend understand how health insurance works makes me feel old but wise. Spending an afternoon playing games and laughing with friends makes me feel young and carefree. I guess what I’m saying is that I’ve been surprised to discover that being a grownup is just a weird mix of feeling mature and on top of your sh*t and also totally immature with sh*t very much on top of you. In the spirit of adulting as an ongoing project, this week’s newsletter has ideas, inspiration, and tips for a bunch of the tasks and duties we commonly associate with being an adult. I hope you find them as helpful as I do!
