This week, we're talking about...
Taking Care of Yourself
Remember when sick days meant staying home from school, watching The Price Is Right, and eating canned soup with an obscene amount of crackers? There's something nostalgic about it, even though, at the time, you were miserable. Maybe it's because now, as adults with responsibilities and jobs, there is literally nothing fun about taking a sick day.
Despite the seemingly unlimited health advice on the internet, the fact is, no matter how healthy you try to be, our bodies are complicated and confusing and unpredictable. We can do everything we're supposed to do—eat well, sleep enough, move a lot—and still not be immune to a virus, a chronic illness, or a disease. Making health a priority can feel frustratingly difficult, but we have to keep doing it.
That's because even when we're stressed or busy, taking care of ourselves will always help. Being good to your body and mind—whatever that looks like for you at this moment—is an invaluable way to invest in yourself. Maybe that means taking a sick day when you really need it, or maybe it means taking a mental health day to watch The Price Is Right with some soup and crackers, just because. You do you.

This story had a lot of our followers talking on Facebook, and for good reason: We shouldn't feel embarrassed to speak up about pain—whether it's associated with a medical procedure or a chronic condition. And our health care providers should be listening.
