I'm not saying it's aliens... [Logo]( Weekly Market Update Today is September 15, 2023 Dear Reader, Hello again and Happy Friday! This story from Bloomberg caught my eye. Bill Spencer True Market Insiders I’m fascinated by stories like this. Not because I believe we’re being visited (or worse) by extraterrestrials… But because I love hearing peoples’ reactions. They either say, “It’s about #*^%$#! time!” Or they say, “What a #*^%$! waste of time!” I actually do have an opinion about unidentified flying objects, and I’ll come to it in a minute. First… At True Market Insider our stock in trade is the stock market. So we’re more likely to focus on IPOs than UFOs. If we’re doing our job properly, we avoid getting carried away by hype. We recognize that if some investing story sounds too good to be true… it probably is. That said, we are only human (or at least humanoid; maybe those NASA folks are on to something…) We’re not immune to hype and hokum. So our approach to the market is informed and fortified by indicators – especially the most important indicator of all – price action. “Stocks are people,” we like to say. That means what ultimately moves prices and markets is human behavior as influenced and directed by human psychology. It also means that if you grasp the thinking that goes on inside the heads of bulls and bears, you’ll be able to tell the likelihood that a stock or sector will go up or down.     The reason is that human psychology and human behavior really don’t change from year to year or decade to decade. Today’s price patterns are showing up on price charts because of the buy/sell actions by human market actors. If those patterns look similar to patterns from yesteryear, we’re justified in thinking that what happened back then (given that pattern) is more likely to happen now. It’s not guaranteed to happen now, and no sane technical analyst would claim otherwise. But it is more likely. And that’s because the human beings at the giant institutions, whose buying and selling determines price levels, normally can only change their stance slowly. If they’re looking to accumulate stocks in, say, the Oil & Coal sector… They do not buy their tens-of-millions of shares at once. If they did, they’d drive the price up too fast. Likewise, if they try to sell all their shares at once, they’ll drive the price so low that their profits evaporate. So when we see prices trending or we see a sector trending we know that trend is likely to continue. This puts the odds in our favor, which is all we can do as investors. That’s fine, because just doing that is enough to beat the market. I left out an important point that I’ll mention now, before we move from greenbacks to little green men. We don’t just notice a trend and then spring into action. We first confirm the trend. If a trend is real, traces of that trend will show up across different indicators. If a price trend is confirmed by a trend in a breadth indicator, such as the bullish percent index (BPI) chart... Or confirmed by a momentum indicator, such as the Relative Strength Index (RSI)... Then we take action. I believe that it’s likely we are not being visited by UFOs and probably never have been. What would change my mind? Confirming indicators. When anyone at NASA, or the U.S. Air Force really finds hard evidence of UFOs, we will damn well know it. We’ll know it by the immediate and wide-spread quarantine that will fall over the area of any true sighting. We’ll know it by the immediate mobilization of every branch of the armed forces, not just in the U.S. but in every developed nation. (After all, those “grays” might not come in peace.) We’ll know it by the army of guys in hazmat suits scouring every inch of the landing sites for alien microbes that could possibly wipe out the human race. Until I see at least one of those things, I’ll resist getting bullish on little green men. Shazbot - Nanu nanu! Have a great weekend! Bill Spencer Editor-in-Chief, True Market Insiders P.S.: Aliens might not pose much of a risk to you and me… But the market always poses risks that need managing. Risk management comes down to HOW you invest. I bring that up because Chris Rowe uses (and teaches) a particular trading technique that has risk management built into it. Your trades come "pre-hedged" (if that’s a word). Also, because the trades are longer-term in nature… [this style of trading]( is perfect for new bull markets, which is what we’re in right now. [Here's a talk Chris prepared]( that tells you about this style of pre-hedged trading, and also gives you the names of some promising stocks.   [Our Aunt Dot’s Fantastic Investment Idea]( [These 3 Small-Caps Are Set to Gain by Double Digits]( [I Told Congress About the Coming Crash]( [YouTube]( [Facebook]( [Twitter]( [Instagram]( [LinkedIn]( DISCLAIMER ©2023 by True Market Insiders, LLC, Protected by copyright laws of the United States and international treaties.
