[Image] Weekly Market Update Today is March 5, 2022 Hey TMI Subscriber, As the war between Russia and Ukraine rages on, fund managers are cutting out Russian-related assets from ETFs, and companies doing business in Russia are bracing for what’s next. On Friday at 4 am EST, the NYSE halted trading of the iShares MSCI Russia ETF (ERUS). MSCI will remove Russian securities from its Emerging Markets indices and implement the change by March 9. And FTSE Russell announced that Russia will be deleted from all FTSE Russell Equity indices effective as of market open on March 7. Meanwhile, an leveraged ETF that provides 2x the return of a Russian benchmark of stocks, Direxion Daily Russia Bull 2X Shares (RUSL), will be liquidated after its final day of trading on March 11. RUSL is down nearly 50% year-to-date. As an investor, you should also be aware of a company’s exposure to certain countries, in this case Russia. You might want to consider tightening your stop losses (or exiting those positions) on any of the below stocks if they’re in your portfolio. They include… Sector: Restaurants McDonalds(MCD)- McDonalds owns 850 stores in Russia, and the country accounts for 4.2% of the fast food giant’s $24 billion in revenue. Sector: Food, Beverages, Soaps PepsiCo(PEP)- Nearly 5% of net sales comes from the Eastern European region, and PepsiCo is the largest food and beverage manufacturer in Russia. The company’s latest annual sales were over $70.2 billion. The company employs approximately 19,000 people in its central and regional offices and in its numerous production sites. Sector: Food, Beverages, Soaps Phillip Morris (PM)- Revenue from Russia in 2021 totaled 8% of the tobacco company's revenue ($31.4 billion total revenue). Mondelez (MDLZ)- This manufacturer of snack food and beverages attributes 3.5% of its sales to Russia. Mondelez also owns multiple plants in Ukraine. Sector: Buildings Mohawk Industries (MHK)- Russian sales total 4.3% of Mohawk’s residential and commercial flooring business. Sector: International - Europe Oil and Coal BP (BP)-This British oil producer is the largest foreign investor in Russia, and it plans to abandon its 19.75% stake in oil giant Rosneft in the wake of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, closing the chapter on 30 years of operation in Russia. Sector: Oil and Coal Shell (SHEL)- The Anglo-Dutch oil company owns 27.5% of the Sakhali-2 liquefied natural gas project. It's one of the five co-financiers of Nord Stream 2, a project that was recently stopped. Sector: Software EPAM Systems Inc (EPAM)- This software development company gets 4% of its revenue from Russia and Ukraine, or Eastern Europe market. EPAM employs more than 7,300 IT professionals and provides services to clients worldwide using a global delivery model through its client management and delivery operations in the United States, Belarus, Hungary, Russia, Ukraine, UK, Germany, Kazakhstan, Sweden, Switzerland, Poland and Canada. Sector: Leisure Carnival Corp. (CCL)- This cruise ship company has 3.6% exposure in Eastern Europe. Carnival ships visit approximately 700 ports under the Carnival Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, P&O Cruises (Australia), Seabourn, Costa Cruises, AIDA Cruises, P&O Cruises (UK), and Cunard brand names. Sector: Auto and Parts Toyota (TM)- The company's plant in Saint Petersburg, Russia, makes Camry and RAV4 vehicles, with an office in Moscow. It has about 2,600 staff, including 26 Japanese nationals, at that location. Regardless of what stocks you own shares in today, be sure you’re monitoring their technical attributes.
