Plus, Google Ads scan-to-call extension, Google Ads API 14.1, YouTube analytics, Lyft ads and more. [View in browser]( | [Share]() Aug 11, 2023 [Search Engine Land]() Good morning, Search Marketer, Gizmodo may have stumbled on an interesting new link- and attention-earning technique: discuss the banal SEO tactics of your competitors. Yes, CNET’s somewhat misguided content pruning has been a hot topic the last couple of days, with Google doing its best to (once again) make it perfectly clear they don’t recommend removing old content just because it’s old. Also, content pruning won’t help your other content rank better due to some supposed freshness signal. As I explain in [my story](), don’t expect any SEO miracles if you decide to delete some of your old content from 10 or 15 years ago. Instead, keep “building out your reputation of knowledge,” as Google’s John Mueller has put it. Improving, removing and consolidating content is good SEO. It’s hard work – and it’s not quick. Done right, it’s worth it in the long term. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables.
