Plus, fewer Google rich results, Yelp ad revenues, X payouts fail, SEO metrics and more | Aug 09, 20

Plus, fewer Google rich results, Yelp ad revenues, X (Twitter) payouts fail, SEO metrics and more [View in browser]( | [Share]() Aug 09, 2023 [Search Engine Land]() Good morning, Search Marketer, sometimes you hear SEO advice that seems way too easy to be true. Recently I spotted a comment from John Mueller, a Google search advocate, who downplayed the value of linking from your website to third-party, high authority websites. “Nothing happens. Why should it?” Mueller said on [Reddit](), “This has been one of those things that SEOs have claimed / hoped since literally decades. … Name-dropping a dictionary doesn’t fix your spelling mistakes.” Should Mueller tell you not to link to good websites? Probably not. But at the same time, he doesn’t want you to think that linking to popular websites can help your Google rankings. It does not – Google has said this for more than a decade ([see my archives here]()). So sure, link to good websites. Just don’t expect those links to help your website rank better in Google search. It’s just too easy.
