Politicians once again put their embarrassing lack of understanding about “big tech” on display yesterday at [TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew visited Congress](). Ironically, the coverage was almost as addictive and as much of a waste of time as TikTok itself can be – quite the feat! I couldn’t stop listening or watching no matter how hard I tried. But ultimately, it was theater. A show. Politicians ranted, talked over Chew and refused to let him answer questions or accusations. Do you seriously think that Facebook, Twitter or other social platforms are any better or pose any less risk to people in the U.S.? Nobody is forcing those 150 million U.S. people to use TikTok. If the point was to make the case for banning TikTok, I’d call it a spectacular failure. All it highlighted to me was, once again, how out of touch some politicians are.
