[Read More]( [Read More]( [SEJTODAY]( Brought to you by: [Read More]( Friday, April 14, 2023 It’s so easy, when we’re caught up in the day-to-day of our own little corners of the world, to remember that we’re part of a big, beautiful global landscape. But in our industry, that’s actually become a little more challenging – thanks, in part, to how the whole world is coming into view with the technologies we use in life, at work, and everywhere else. The last time I wrote, I mentioned restrictions that the Italian Data Protection Authority placed on [ChatGPT](. And it’s hard to believe that that’s just one teeny-tiny piece of what we’re witnessing in real time, in terms of how technology is being approached globally. Take, for example, the recently-introduced [RESTRICT Act](. This has come up a lot in conversations with my team in pitch meetings, in post-hearing discussions, and – nerd alert! – over lunch. We can’t help ourselves. Not only is a legislature of this kind pretty momentous, but also, it’s so much further-reaching than many realize. That’s why I was so thrilled when Associate News Editor Kristi Hines took on the tall order of breaking down [the different types of technology that would be impacted by the RESTRICT Act]( and why I chose to highlight that article today. As you’ll see, this is more than just the cries of a [TikTok ban]( and I’m grateful to have such an amazing team of writers to guide me – and our readers! – through what’s bound to be a bumpy ride. (Whoops. There I go with the humblebrags again.) And in what’s truly an embarrassment of riches, that’s just one of the truly superb articles I’ve got for you today: - [Google released its April 2023 Reviews System Update]( this week; Roger Montti’s got you covered with a look at what it means. - ICYMI: Microsoft and Roku joined forces to kick ad buying and optimizing performance up a notch. Matt Southern tell us more [here](. - Plus, a fascinating list of [machine learning examples in the wild – and for SEO](. It’s Friday, y’all – we’ve got this. From my own little corner of the world, AZW [Read the Article]( News, TikTok [11 Popular Apps, Products, And Services Potentially Affected By The RESTRICT Act]( By Kristi Hines The recently-introduced bipartisan legislature may give users and lawmakers alike a bit more than they bargained for. The Restricting the Emergence of Security Threats that Risk Information and Communications Technology (RESTRICT) Act would allow the U.S. Department of Commerce the power to review information and communications technology (ICT) products and services used by Americans. If an ICT product (like TikTok) with millions of U.S. users (150M, specifically) is made by an entity (ByteDance) tied to a country labeled as a foreign adversary (China) – it may fall under this 55-page bill, introduced by Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA). Fundamentally, the Act aims to stop foreign adversaries from sabotaging ICT products or services, damaging critical infrastructure, interfering with Federal elections, steering U.S. policies and regulations for foreign benefit, or posing other risks to national security or the security of U.S. persons. As for the risks these ICT products and services might pose, the main objective of the RESTRICT Act is to presumably shield critical infrastructures (like telecom and energy, for instance) that support national defense, government, and the economy from sabotage by so-called foreign adversaries. [Try it free]( Content Trends, SEO [7 Content Writing Trends For 2023]( By Ron Lieback It’s no secret that brands have leveraged A.I. marketing for years and probably even limited the usage of A.I.-generated content. While Google has stated that A.I.-generated content meant to manipulate search results constitutes spam, it has also stated that the “appropriate use” of A.I. to assist content is not against its guidelines. As technology advances, the need to balance the impulse to supplement too much of our workflow with A.I. and to keep our writing organic will be difficult. Nevertheless, users and search engines prefer creative and organic content over A.I. [Read Now...]( News, Tools [GA4 Update: “Once Per Session” Conversion Counting Method]( By Matt G. This is achieved by using large data sets that train the parameters in the model. Perhaps the most well-known examples of machine learning currently are ChatG.P.T. and BARD – and while this post won’t be focusing on them, I decided to ask them both to explain to me what machine learning is. However, understanding how machine learning works in search (and in real life) can only work to your advantage as an S.E.O. pro – whether you're technical or not. In this comprehensive article, learn the types of machine learning and ethics associated with the technology, then take inspiration from seven machine learning examples that have had a great impact on our world.
