Millions of childhoods have been destroyed ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ [Save the Children Action Network] Save the Children Action Network is the political voice for kids. One year after the Taliban takeover, the economic crisis in Afghanistan is having a devastating impact for children and their families. [Tell President Biden: if we don’t act now, millions of children will continue to suffer.]( [Send A Message]( Hi Friend, The lives of children in Afghanistan have been turned upside down. Following the Taliban’s return to power, the economy slid into crisis, plunging families like Yasamin’s* into poverty. “Before, my husband worked in Kabul and we had a very happy life,” says Yasamin. “[But] we’re in a very bad situation now.” Most days, her eight children survive on just bread and water. Weak from malnutrition, three-year-old Sameem* keeps falling sick – but health care is a luxury they can’t afford. [Send a message to President Biden: we must end policies that are contributing to the collapse of Afghanistan’s economy, or countless lives could be lost.]( In response to the takeover last summer, the U.S. and other countries imposed economic restrictions on Afghanistan – creating a financial crisis and exacerbating humanitarian needs. Now, a staggering 97% of Afghan households can’t afford necessities. Children are missing meals. Their physical and mental health is suffering – and access to lifesaving medical care is often out of reach. A quarter of all girls who took part in a Save the Children survey were showing daily signs of depression¹.They’re facing increased risks of forced marriage and are nearly twice as likely as boys to go to bed hungry. Friend, our government’s actions are perpetuating suffering for millions of children and their families. They need advocates like you to speak up and hold decision-makers accountable. [Urge President Biden to end economic restrictions that are hurting Afghan children and families!]( [Take Action]( Thank you for being a voice for kids, Christy Gleason Executive Director Save the Children Action Network *Names changed for protection ¹ ["Breaking Point: Children’s lives one year under Taliban rule,"]( Save the Children, 8/10/2022 The coronavirus pandemic is creating new struggles for children.
