Hey there - I cracked open an oldie but goodie this week — [The Secret Life of Bees.]( I remembered this being one of the most impactful books I’d read in high school, but unfortunately couldn’t remember why. Then I read the very first page. The book opens like this: At night I would lie in bed and watch the show, how bees squeezed through the cracks of my bedroom wall and flew circles around the room, making that propeller sound, a high-pitched zzzzzz that hummed along my skin. I watched their wings shining like bits of chrome in the dark and felt the longing build in my chest. The way those bees flew, not even looking for a flower, just flying for the feel of the wind, split my heart down its seam. It’s that line — just flying for the feel of the wind — that inspired the quick note I wanted to leave you with today: Sometimes, you need to write just to write. Not because you’re working on a sales page. Not because you’re drumming up another social media caption. Not because you owe your list another email. Sometimes, you need to write just for the feel of releasing words onto the page. Even if you don’t identify as a writer — and sometimes especially if you do identify as a writer — you have to take the pressure off and just write. It’s in what seems like mindless wandering that some of our best ideas surface. And, if nothing else, you’ll feel a little lighter. Until next time, be kind + stay safe - Sara P.S. What’s on your nightstand these days? Hit reply + tell me what you’re reading. I could nerd out over books allllllll day. 🤓 Ready to call it quits?
