A taxpayer-funded religious school is a Christian nationalist move to destroy separation of church and state. Oklahoma Republicans pave the way for the Supreme Court to end secular education The latest addition to the Oklahoma charter school world doesn't seem like much of a school at all. St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School doesn't offer in-person classes, despite the end of a pandemic that illustrated how crucial real world contact is to education. Its first application to be a charter school in Oklahoma was rejected, [because it failed to meet the not-exactly-high state](~/AASU4wA~/RgRmYug9P0REaHR0cHM6Ly9saW5rLndoZXJlYnkudXMvdzg4aG5ucGRqOS8_bGhfYWlkPTM1NDM5NTImbGhfY2lkPTMwN2k1cHNzNmhXA3NwY0IKZH89Y4BkRpwYxVIbdHJpc3RyYW1iYWxkd2luODVAZ21haWwuY29tWAQAAAAo) standards set by Oklahoma law. If providing quality education to Oklahoma students was the goal, then the choice to approve this school doesn't make any sense at all. But, of course, Oklahoma is run by far-right Republicans who are far more interested in pushing a Christian nationalist agenda than serving the needs of their constituents. Republicans didn't approve St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School to be funded by the taxpayers because of its educational value. There is only one, shameless reason for this: To give the far-right Supreme Court a chance to destroy the separation of church and state, a founding American principle. [Read more from Amanda Marcotte.](~/AASU4wA~/RgRmYug9P0RoaHR0cHM6Ly9saW5rLndoZXJlYnkudXMvNWkxc3R1MmI2cy8_bGhfYWlkPTM1NDM5NTImbGhfY2lkPTMwN2k1cHNzNmgmbGhfZW09dHJpc3RyYW1iYWxkd2luODUlNDBnbWFpbC5jb21XA3NwY0IKZH89Y4BkRpwYxVIbdHJpc3RyYW1iYWxkd2luODVAZ21haWwuY29tWAQAAAAo) (Photo via Getty Images/joe daniel price) Experts: Trump lawyers trying to “work the referees” ahead of likely indictment Lawyers for Donald Trump met with top Justice Department officials on Monday to make the case that the former president should not be charged in connection with his possession of classified documents after leaving office. "Special counsel Jack Smith's decision to meet with former President Trump's lawyers suggests that Smith is near a final decision about whether to charge the former president for his handling of classified documents and possible obstruction of the DOJ's investigation into his conduct," Temidayo Aganga-Williams, partner at Selendy Gay Elsberg and former senior investigative counsel for the House Jan. 6 committee, told Salon. "Trump's attorneys are just working the referees," added Brandon Rottinghaus, a political science professor at the University of Houston. It's unclear if the room was flooded intentionally or by mistake, according to the report, but prosecutors have found the series of events "suspicious" and asked at least one witness about it. "Prosecutors don't believe in coincidences. It's not surprising that they are very suspicious about the flooding of a room where Mar-a-Lago surveillance video logs were kept," former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti tweeted. "A jury would likely be skeptical of this evidence as well."
