Joe Biden’s first State of the Union disrupted by Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene President Biden gave his first State of the Union address against the backdrop of all-out war in Europe, vowing to make Russian President Vladimir Putin "pay a price" for his brutal invasion of Ukraine and listing his domestic priorities before his speech was disrupted by Republican rancor. Biden used his address to Congress to reset his stalled domestic agenda, address inflation concerns, renew his call for gun control legislation and tout the qualifications of Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson, but the crisis in Ukraine overshadowed the event. The night was ultimately disrupted by overtly partisan heckling from Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene. Boebert's jeers while talked about his son Beau’s death drew boos from the chamber. (Saul Loeb - Pool/Getty Images) Wyoming moves to ban gender studies — Happy Women’s History Month! On Friday, the Republican-dominated Wyoming state Senate passed a bill barring the University of Wyoming from funding "any gender studies courses, academic programs, co-curricular programs, or extracurricular programs." This move is an expansion of the same pressure campaign aginst "critical race theory." In real life, "critical race theory" describes a specific academic approach largely found in law schools and other graduate programs. But in GOP hands, it has become a broad scare term use to demonize any book or course that addresses factual history about racism, slavery or Jim Crow oppression. This GOP-led circle of censorship has swiftly expanded to target the existence of queer people, too. Dave Grohl, deaf like me — except, of course, not like me Dave Grohl, frontman and guitarist for the Foo Fighters and former drummer of Nirvana, described himself as deaf in a recent interview with Howard Stern, the result of years of playing loud music with little or no ear protection. According to Grohl, noise at high volumes damaged some of his hearing, including his ability to hear in one ear and led to the onset of tinnitus. Salon’s Alison Stine writes that Grohl has an opportunity to make an invisible disability — one that she was born with — more visible. Hard of hearing is a label often falsely ascribed only to people who are elderly, as a purely aged-related disability. It's part of the reason people discount that a younger, so-called healthy-looking person like me could be deaf (and perhaps why they yell at me in anger or embarrassment when I let them know I can't hear them). Not only is Grohl still youthful, still rocking out (and bringing the next generation of drummers along with him), he's a star. Over 37 million adults in the United States have some hearing differences. As the country's population ages, that number will only grow. Flesch reading score

Flesch reading score measures how complex a text is. The lower the score, the more difficult the text is to read. The Flesch readability score uses the average length of your sentences (measured by the number of words) and the average number of syllables per word in an equation to calculate the reading ease. Text with a very high Flesch reading ease score (about 100) is straightforward and easy to read, with short sentences and no words of more than two syllables. Usually, a reading ease score of 60-70 is considered acceptable/normal for web copy.
