Abrams joined “Salon Talks” to discuss his book, [“Lincoln's Last Trial: The Murder Case That Propelled Him to the Presidency”]( which explores the year 1859 and takes the reader inside a murder trial courtroom with Abraham Lincoln, nine months before he got the Republican nomination. The book unearths the only transcript of Lincoln’s law career ever found, discovered in a garage in 1989. Abrams even explains how some lessons from the book could be applied to the current political situation, including the Mueller investigation. But Abrams emphasizes the importance of how the media perceives Donald Trump. Abrams explains to Salon’s Executive Editor Andrew O’Hehir, “It can't be every time the president says something that is not accurate, it's a lie. Because I think to say it's a lie, there has to be . . . I don't want to say proof, but you have to believe that he knows it's not true.” In this divisive period of United States history, Abrams stresses why it’s important to distinguish between the two situations of lying and being inaccurate, “I do think that the media has an obligation to state that it is inaccurate.” Watch the video above to hear Abrams’ analysis on whether Trump believed that there was a law that required the separation of children from their parents at the border. And watch the [full interview]( to learn more about Abrams’ book on Lincoln’s last trial as a lawyer before he took office. Watkins doesn’t feel sorry for Melania Trump, no matter how many good things she does to combat cyberbullying and any number of the digs she takes at the president along the way. Watkins is fed up with everything Melania, from her super luxury gardening wardrobe, to her delayed and expensive move into the White House, to the speech she stole from Michelle Obama when she could’ve easily bought her own. Watkins doesn’t think Melania Trump is trapped and thinks she knows exactly what she was getting into when she chose to marry Donald. The activist, who was named as one of Time Magazine’s 2017 persons of the year, stressed the importance of human connection through the movement. “If you are somebody who has survived really any kind of trauma and somebody says to you, “me too,” then you know that if nothing else, you have a small connection between that person,” Burke told SalonTV. “That small connection can be the entry place where you start your healing process.” It is those two words, me too, that forged a bond between survivors across the world. After [87 women]( accused the Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein of multiple forms of sexual harassment and assault, the movement continues to validate sexual abuse victims across multiple industries. Burke is clear on the movement’s commitment to supporting different kinds of stories, as she expressed in a [Twitter thread]( that addresses the recent allegations against Asia Argento, a Weinstein victim. The #MeToo movement that began with Burke will still continue on and be valid regardless of who tries to discredit it. It’s still important for #MeToo to reach as many people as possible because as Burke says, “it was liberating to me to know that there were other people like me.” Watch SalonTV’s [full interview]( with Burke to learn more about her vision for #MeToo’s future. [npREM8vD-720.jpg]( [Devin Nunes' opponent Andrew Janz makes the case for kicking Nunes off the Russia investigation]( Rep. Devin Nunes, a Republican from California, is the head of the House Intelligence Committee and is supposed to be investigating whether President Donald Trump was involved in an effort by Russian spies to steal private information from Democratic campaign officials to manipulate the 2016 elections. Instead, Nunes appears to be running interference for the president, and was even caught on tape telling Republican donors that House Republicans are "the only ones" who can protect the president from accountability. Nunes's Democratic opponent, Andrew Janz, is in law enforcement — he's a violent crimes prosecutor in Fresno, California — and he had some choice words for Nunes's role in the Russia cover-up. "This investigation into the Russian meddling in 2016 is going to be one of the most important investigations ever undertaken in the United States of America," he told Salon's Amanda Marcotte, adding, "we need to make sure as a country that this investigation continues unimpeded and that we put politics aside." "You know, traditionally, in the House Intelligence Committee, Republicans and Democrats have been able to come together in a bipartisan fashion to make sure that our country is protected," he continued. "I see my opponent, every single day in Washington, working to really undermine this investigation." "What's most frustrating about all this is he is using his position as committee chairman to not only interfere with the investigation, but then again to raise money off of his interference," Janz said, pointing out the fact that the taped comments were an effort to get donor money with promises of further interference. To hear more on how Janz plans to win Nunes’ seat, watch the [full interview]( Tune in for SalonTV's live shows, ["Salon Talks"]( and ["Salon Stage"]( , daily at noon ET / 9 a.m. PT and 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT, streaming live on [YouTube]( , [Facebook]( and [Periscope]( . --------------------------------------------------------------- [imp?s=289855&layout=marquee&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=ef4ca08466]( [imp?s=289856&sz=1x1&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=ef4ca08466] [imp?s=289857&sz=1x1&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=ef4ca08466] [imp?s=289858&sz=116x15&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=ef4ca08466]( [imp?s=289859&sz=69x15&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=ef4ca08466]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [Our love/hate affair with women’s bodies]( “A woman who is feeling something is a bitch”: Our love-hate affair with women’s bodies Mary Elizabeth Williams --------------------------------------------------------------- [White House does not rule out pardons]( Sarah Huckabee Sanders does not rule out possibility of presidential pardons for Cohen and Manafort Shira Tarlo --------------------------------------------------------------- [Trump is blasting Cohen]( Trump goes on the attack against Michael Cohen as legal troubles pile up Matthew Rozsa --------------------------------------------------------------- [Wayne Kramer: Trump is “so like Nixon”]( MC5’s Wayne Kramer on why Trump is “very much so like Richard Nixon” Amanda Marcotte --------------------------------------------------------------- [imp?s=289852&sz=300x250&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=ef4ca08466]( [imp?s=289853&sz=1x1&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=ef4ca08466] [imp?s=289854&sz=1x1&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=ef4ca08466] [imp?s=218016&sz=116x15&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=ef4ca08466]( [imp?s=218017&sz=69x15&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=ef4ca08466]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [facebook_black.png]( [twitter_black.png]( [Get it on Google Play]( [appstore.png]( [Help]( | [Advertising Information]( Copyright ©2018 Salon Media Group, Inc.
