Chef Marcus Samuelsson shares this expert tip and advice for home cooks]( Ever wanted to cook like a chef for friends and family or take on a new recipe, but didn’t know where to start? Red Rooster’s chef Marcus Samuelsson helps out D. Watkins on the “Salon 5” and delivers his top five pro tips for anyone who wants to cook better at home. It all starts at the grocery store or farmer’s market. Samuelsson’s tips hit on everything from how to pick out fresh fish, to understanding that cooking is a language and requires flexibility. Check out the full video above to hear all of the crucial cooking lessons. You can catch Samuelsson on his new show [“No Passport Required,”]( where he travels America and eats his way through immigrant communities. And, watch him on [this episode]( of “Salon Talks.” The chef sat down with D. Watkins to unpack the new show, his own immigrant roots, and why he thinks food is like music. [Sorry, Lili Reinhart.]( As Kim Wexler, the overworked, steely attorney and lone primary female in the always morally shaky world of ["Better Call Saul,"]( , Seehorn presents a realistic and relatable vision of a diligent, exhausted and often morally compromised working woman trying to get ahead against the odds. And that struggle often shows up at the top of her head. People talk about the ponytail, Seehorn told Mary Elizabeth Williams recently on "Salon Talks." "All the time." "It became this entire symbol thing," she said. "It starts to drag a little because Kim's becoming unraveled, and then it's more tightly coiled." Seehorn's subtle, smart performance has connected deeply with fans. The actress herself thinks that people "respond to the idea of watching someone work hard to get ahead and get squished down and try again,” Seehorn said. “They end up finding Kim very accessible because this is someone who desperately wants to believe if you work hard enough you'll be alright. They want to know that amounts to something. I love that people respond to that. They love sitting watching her highlighting things and working hard." Watch the video above to see Seehorn talk about and what she believes is Kim's mysterious backstory and why the first thing she does when she reads her scripts is "make sure I'm not dead." On “Salon Talks,” Rose called for bringing trust back to the Democratic Party with new blood and new leadership at the top. “If you ran some significant democratic policy positions, investments in infrastructure, investments in our healthcare system so that we can lower overall costs while expanding coverage, supporting unions, doing something about rampant gun violence in a district like mine, there'd be resounding support for them,” he said. Rose is facing off against Republican Rep. Dan Donovan in New York’s 11th Congressional District this November. [nvKYxs24-720.jpg]( ["The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill" turns 20: How the hip-hop artist paved the way for millennial women]( "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill," Lauryn Hill's 1998 solo debut, is often lauded as one of the greatest albums of all time. Award-winning author, hip-hop journalist and scholar, Joan Morgan, argues on “Salon Talks” that the impact of that album and Hill's legacy goes far beyond the music. In her new book, ["She Begat This: 20 Years of the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,"]( Morgan explains how Hill was both a musical and visual intervention to hip-hop and pop culture. "Lauryn showed up on the scene and rose to a Beyoncé level of fame, insisting that she look exactly like she looked," Morgan told SalonTV’s Rachel Leah. "She really kicked the door wide open for what we routinely, visually call Black Girl Magic now, before we had the term and before we had the hashtag." Morgan also pointed out the public's resistance to Hill's young pregnancy and questions the music industry’s and fans lack of empathy for Hill. After all, Hill's legacy is muddled for some. She has a slim body of work, has earned a reputation for being hard to work with (with the lawsuits to prove it), and is notorious for being hours late to her shows. But Morgan says we should recognize Hill's humanity, and most importantly, that "a 23 year-old woman came out, was resolutely herself, unapologetically herself and gave us a space to enter and to grow in. And sometimes that's enough." In "She Begat This," Morgan enlists other cultural trailblazers, like #MeToo founder [Tarana Burke]( , magazine legend Kierna Mayo, cultural critic dream hampton, image activist Michaela Angela Davis, among other artists, DJs and scholars, to tell an oral history of Hill and the way she transformed the culture.
