Salon is premiering the video for the song, which you can watch above. Lee’s deep connections to the Charlottesville community prompted him to write and reflect on the realities of hate and the alt-right’s presence in America. “We all watched the news when that stuff went down. I was crying. It’s just amazing to me that an openly hateful group of people can march in a city and feel the things they feel together,” Lee told Salon. “I can't even comprehend how you can wake up with that much hate in your heart every day.” Lee wrote “Dying White Light” from the perspective of the wife of a white supremacist who is trying to shield her children from the intense bigotry around them. The singer-songwriter did not feel "Dying White Light" would fit the tone and themes of his upcoming album, “My New Moon,” out August 31, so he is releasing the song one year after Charlottesville and donating proceeds to the Heal Charlottesville Foundation, which focuses on solving racial inequality and addressing bias. Catch Lee performing live on “Salon Stage,” SalonTV’s online music show, on September 13 at 1 p.m. ET.. Lee will do acoustic renditions off his new album while he’s in New York for his nationwide tour. You can watch “Salon Stage” streaming live on [YouTube]( , [Facebook]( and [Periscope]( . It's a comedy, or rather, dramedy that finds a father and daughter reconnecting after 26 years apart and follows their complicated and funny journey of forgiveness. Miller Rogen opens up on “Salon Talks” about how she tapped into her family's own trauma to write the script, and what it was like to direct her husband, Seth Rogen, who is an actor in the film. Watch the video above to hear why she thinks Netflix needs to recategorize comedies like hers that are funny, but also kind of sad. “I infused my own personal journey into the fictional one that we created,” Miller Rogen shared with SalonTV’s Rachel Leah. “I haven’t lived a life without my father, but I have experienced sadness and anger. I felt those things while I was writing the script. My mom, who has Alzheimer’s disease, was becoming more advanced in the disease and I was in this sort of dark, angry place.” Miller Rogen founded Hilarity for Charity in 2012 in support of Alzheimer’s awareness and has since raised over $10 million. As far as working with Rogen, “what a diva!” Miller Rogen joked. “Like Father” is Miller Rogen’s feature directorial debut and she says Rogen was very supportive, even if they bickered a bit on the set, which took place an actual Royal Caribbean cruise ship. “There’s no one else I trust more than him. I don’t think anyone else is more talented than he is. He’s my best friend who does what I do and I’m lucky to have him around,” Miller Rogen said. Watch the full interview above to hear Miller Rogen comment on the underrepresentation of female directors, and her personal story as a writer, director and producer. Plus, she unpacks how she is experiencing the #MeToo movement’s positive and direct impact today in Hollywood. Author and journalist David Neiwert joined "Salon Talks" to dispels the myth that movement grew out of nowhere. Neiwert's book,“Alt-America: The Rise of the Radical Right in the Age of Trump," traces the evolution of what we now call the alt-right to its roots in the '90s-era militia movement and the conspiracy theorists and cranks that have been steadily building their following for decades. Neiwert told SalonTV's Amanda Marcotte who these alt-righters are, and why Trump has been what they call an “emperor god” for them. “The alt-right really is a mix of old and new,” Neiwert explained. “It’s got all the elements of white nationalism and white supremacism and that sort of thing in it, as well as nativism and Ku Klux Klan neo-confederacy.” “The only real difference is that, unlike the old far right, this new far right is geared towards recruiting young people,” he continued. “They’re trying to recruit young white men between ages 16 and 30, really. That’s their target audience.” “They’ve actually been disturbingly successful in doing that,” Neiwert said, noting that the alt-right may be even better than the left at exploiting the internet, meme culture, and social media to reach young audiences in ways that are often out of view to the mainstream. While the alt-right predates Trump’s candidacy, Neiwert argued, it’s nearly impossible to overrate his value as a motivating and organizing force for this burgeoning movement of racist extremists. Watch the vide above to find out why Neiwert thinks it looked like the alt-right was looking like it was going to to fall apart by mid-2015, and why it didn't. [HtuN7pca-720.jpg]( [Thirty years after "Full House," Lori Loughlin finds a home in TV movies on Hallmark]( “Full House” actress Lori Loughlin, who has been working in television for over three decades, tells SalonTV that she is seeing a change in Hollywood for women around the roles available for actresses over 40. Loughlin landed her first television job at age 17 on the soap opera “The Edge of Night,” and had her career-making role on the '90s series “Full House.” Today, she’s a regular on the Hallmark Channel starring in the “Garage Sale Mysteries” movies on Hallmark Movies & Mysteries Channel, premiering this summer, and on Hallmark’s “When Calls the Heart,” a period Western series. “You’re seeing a lot of women that are of a certain age that used to do feature films that are finding homes on great television shows, whether it’s on network shows or cable or streaming channels,” Loughlin told Salon’s Alli Joseph. “You’re finding more and more that you can reach an audience in many different ways.” Loughlin reprises her “Full House” role of Aunt Becky on “Fuller House,” streaming on Netflix and soon launching its fourth season. On “Salon Talks,” Loughlin also opened up about the most important lessons she learned in her early career. On set when she was a teeneager, Loughlin witnessed the lead actor replaced by another actor, within days after he suffered an accident. "I was probably 17, and I thought, "Don't ever think you can't be replaced, because you can," Loughlin told SalonTV. "It was just a lesson that I always took with me, to always be grateful." Check out the [full interview]( to learn about the advice Loughlin is currently giving her college-age daughters and why she thinks her “Full House” character Becky makes fans feel like she's an "old friend.” Tune in for more interviews with actors, directors and more on “Salon Talks,” daily at noon ET / 9 a.m. PT and 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT, streaming live on [YouTube]( , [Facebook]( and [Periscope]( . --------------------------------------------------------------- [imp?s=289855&layout=marquee&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=4817507fb6]( [imp?s=289856&sz=1x1&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=4817507fb6] [imp?s=289857&sz=1x1&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=4817507fb6] [imp?s=289858&sz=116x15&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=4817507fb6]( [imp?s=289859&sz=69x15&li=5deda2aaa7&e={EMAIL}&p=4817507fb6]( --------------------------------------------------------------- [After Hillary, a sea change for women]( Give Hillary credit: Clinton didn’t win, but she inspired a sea change for women candidates Amanda Marcotte --------------------------------------------------------------- [Suppressing votes is GOP priority #1]( Trump wants us to forget that the Russia investigation is really about our votes Lucian K.
