Fulton had this message for the Trump administration. "It's easier to be evil than good. When they lose a family member, then trust me, they'll understand,” Fulton told SalonTV’s D. Watkins on “Salon Talks.” She continued, “They know that people are being killed unjustly, unarmed and being shot and killed [and] then nobody is being held accountable. They know about the gun laws, they know the guns that are being sold, they know about the court system and the laws because they created all of those things.” Fulton and Tracy joined Salon’s D. Watkins on “Salon Talks” to unpack the six-part documentary series that they are a part of, “Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story.” The series, executive produced by Jay-Z, premieres on BET and the Paramount Network July 30, at 10 p.m. ET. Martin is hopeful that the nation can make progress on race, but says we are not there yet. “We went back a few steps in terms of how people view us and how they're taking our lives in terms of this administration. People are having a conversation about racism, but we still have a long way to go." Watch the interview above to hear more from Trayvon Martin’s parents on how America can find meaningful change on race. And check out the [full interview]( to hear how Fulton and Martin are helping other families victimized by gun violence pick themselves back up after tragedy through the [Trayvon Martin Foundation] (). And, watch D. Watkins’ full interview with the directors of the “Rest in Power” docu-series, [Jenner Furst and Julia Willoughby Nason]( to hear more about how Trayvon’s untimely death led to a nationwide movement and how they brought George Zimmerman’s story into the series. [qVzANF7K-720.jpg]( [Could Russian ties cost Rep. Dana Rohrabacher his election? Challenger Harley Rouda makes his case]( Can Harley Rouda, a Democrat and a businessman from Orange County, California, turn one of the state’s most conservative districts blue? What seemed impossible for decades now is looking very real, as a recent poll shows Rouda, who supports progressive positions like Medicare For All and getting corporate money out of politics, running slightly ahead of Dana Rohrabacher, who has been a congressman since 1989. While most of the Russian scandal has focused on either Donald Trump’s campaign or the National Rifle Association, Rohrabacher has also drawn heat for his unsavory connections to Russian agents such as Maria Butina, his untoward enthusiasm for Vladimir Putin, and his hostility towards sanctions on Russian leaders for committing human rights abuses. In 2016, House Majority Leader and Republican congressman Kevin McCarthy was even caught on tape saying, “There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump.” In his interview with Salon’s Amanda Marcotte, Rouda emphasizes that his race isn’t just about promoting progressive ideas and representing an increasingly diverse district. He argues it’s also about saving democracy in the face of efforts, both within and outside of the country, to undermine the concept of rule by the people. But Rouda also argues Democrats can walk and chew gum at the same time, emphasizing the importance of this election to saving our democracy, while also talking about "kitchen table" issues like health care and jobs. Watch the interview above to learn more about Rouda's campaign and how the Russian scandal extends beyond the White House and into Congress. On “Salon Talks,” O’Donnell, one of the first journalists to cover police brutality as it unfolded in Boston in the 1970s, offered this advice. “The thing that the police departments don’t want and the thing the prosecutors don’t want is any attention. They’re just hoping that no one’s going to ask any questions. If no one asks any questions that this is going to go in a very smooth direction for police officers,” O’Donnell told Salon’s D. Watkins. He continued “As far as I can tell, that era is over.” Back in 1983, O’Donnell published one of the first books on police brutality, and today he is republishing it to bring renewed attention to American police departments’ long history with racial profiling and its deadly effects. O’Donnell is renewing the 1983 book, [“Deadly Force: A Police Shooting and My Family’s Search for the Truth”]( with a new preface and afterword, which follows the story of James Bowden, Jr., an unarmed black man who was killed by a Boston police officer in 1975. The case was one of the first to draw national headlines and a dramatic investigation and lengthy court case. Watch the video above to learn more about O’Donnell’s take on why the mainstream media is finally paying attention o police shootings. And check out the [full interview]( to hear O’Donnell’s personal connection to the 1975 Bowden case and his take on the Boston Police Department’s reforms. [FTuaoWzG-720.jpg]( [In "Whose Streets?" documentary, watch Ferguson activists become the torchbearers of a new resistance]( When unarmed black teenager Michael Brown was killed by a white police officer in Ferguson, Missouri, and left lying in the street for hours, it marked a breaking point for the residents of the St. Louis area and beyond. Uniting people from the community and across the nation, a movement—propelled by young activists and Ferguson community members—was born. In this exclusive clip from the documentary “Whose Streets?” neighbors and activists fight on front lines for justice and equality and call for an end to police brutality. “Whose Streets?” is an unflinching look at the Ferguson uprising and the movement that followed. Directed by Sabaah Folayan and Damon Davis, “Whose Streets?” has its national broadcast and streaming debut on the PBS documentary series POV and pov.org on Monday, July 30, 2018, at 10 p.m. (check local listings). POV is American television’s longest-running independent documentary series now in its 31st season. The film is a co-presentation with the National Black Programming Consortium (NBPC) and was an official selection at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. Want more documentary content?
