Fulton had this message for the Trump administration. "It's easier to be evil than good. When they lose a family member, then trust me, they'll understand,” Fulton told SalonTV’s D. Watkins on “Salon Talks.” She continued, “They know that people are being killed unjustly, unarmed and being shot and killed [and] then nobody is being held accountable. They know about the gun laws, they know the guns that are being sold, they know about the court system and the laws because they created all of those things.” Fulton and Tracy joined Salon’s D. Watkins on “Salon Talks” to unpack the six-part documentary series that they are a part of, “Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story.” The series, executive produced by Jay-Z, premieres on BET and the Paramount Network July 30, at 10 p.m. ET. What seemed impossible for decades now is looking very real, as a recent poll shows Rouda, who supports progressive positions like Medicare For All and getting corporate money out of politics, running slightly ahead of Dana Rohrabacher, who has been a congressman since 1989. While most of the Russian scandal has focused on either Donald Trump’s campaign or the National Rifle Association, Rohrabacher has also drawn heat for his unsavory connections to Russian agents such as Maria Butina, his untoward enthusiasm for Vladimir Putin, and his hostility towards sanctions on Russian leaders for committing human rights abuses. In 2016, House Majority Leader and Republican congressman Kevin McCarthy was even caught on tape saying, “There’s two people I think Putin pays: Rohrabacher and Trump.” In his interview with Salon’s Amanda Marcotte, Rouda emphasizes that his race isn’t just about promoting progressive ideas and representing an increasingly diverse district. He argues it’s also about saving democracy in the face of efforts, both within and outside of the country, to undermine the concept of rule by the people. On “Salon Talks,” O’Donnell, one of the first journalists to cover police brutality as it unfolded in Boston in the 1970s, offered this advice. “The thing that the police departments don’t want and the thing the prosecutors don’t want is any attention. They’re just hoping that no one’s going to ask any questions. If no one asks any questions that this is going to go in a very smooth direction for police officers,” O’Donnell told Salon’s D. Watkins.
