Two-time Emmy Award winner and acclaimed director Rob Reiner says we need journalism now more than ever before. On âSalon Talksâ while discussing his new film âShock and Awe,â Reiner spoke out about Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedyâs retirement. âIf we give this possibly illegitimate president who is under investigation for colluding with a foreign enemy power to take this country, if we give him another seat on the Supreme Court it could change the way America is for the next 30, 40, 50 years. Itâs very scary.â Watch the video above to hear Reiner's message for the press. âShock and Awe,â out July 13 and starring Woody Harrelson and James Marsden, tells the story of the Knight Ridder reporters who were the first ones to dig deep into the lack of evidence of weapons of mass destruction before the Iraq War in 2003. [Obama insider: Fox News is worse under Trump](
Part of Dan Pfeiffer's job while serving as White House communications director under President Obama was handling the lies Fox News spread about Obama. The longtime presidential aide is now co-host of the hit politics podcast âPod Save America.â âComplaining about coverage of Obama to Fox News was kind of like banging your head against a wall,â Pfeiffer writes in his new book, âYes We (Still) Can: Politics in the Age of Obama, Twitter, and Trump.â On âSalon Talks,â Pfeiffer gives his response to Fox News and offers advice for Democrats on how to respond to and counteract conservative voices in the media. [Ruth Bader Ginsburg on the big screen](
How did Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg rise to serve on the nation's highest court and what will she be remembered for beyond her famous, stinging dissents? Directors Betsy West and Julie Cohen joined âSalon Talksâ to peel back the layers of Ginsburg, which they brought together in a forthcoming documentary film about her life, âRBG,â playing in select theaters beginning May 4. âThere is her history as a litigator on behalf of women, and also an amazing feminist love story,â West said on âSalon Talks,â referring to Ginsburgâs husband Marty, who died in 2010. There is also Ginsburgâs hour-long workout routine on full display in âRBG,â which puts most occasional exercisers to shame. Spoiler: The 85-year-old justice can do 20 push-ups, real ones, too! Most importantly, âRBGâ chronicles the way Ginsburg has transformed the American landscape for women. As she powerfully quotes in the film, âI ask no favor for my sex, all I ask of our bredren is that they take their feet off our necks.â Check out the full interview above to learn more about Ginsburgâs legal legacy of pushing for a more just and equitable society for everyone.
