[1968: Bobby Kennedy for President](
Bobby Kennedy is still recognized as one of the most transformative figures in U.S. historyÂââ his leadership style, intellect and hunger for change remain unmatched. As we approach the 50th anniversary of his death, there is a chance to get a deeper look into his journey and life in Dawn Porterâs new Netflix original documentary series âBobby Kennedy for President.â Porter, who also directed âGideonâs Army,â âSpies of Mississippi,â and âTrappedâ discussed how she created the series with SalonTVâs D Watkins, including viewing hundreds of hours of lost footage of RFK. âThat impulse to step into things and do what you can to help where you can and we see that over and over with Bobby Kennedy,â Porter told Salon. âAnd thatâs something I think politicians today can benefit from thinking about.â Watch the full episode above to learn more about the series âBobby Kennedy For Presidentâ and why RFK continues to be one of the most iconic figures in American politics. [A Native American first for Congress?](
Thereâs never been a Native American Congresswoman in United States history, but with four indigenous women running for Congress in the upcoming midterm elections, 2018 may be the year when history is made. Deb Haaland, a Democratic candidate for Congress in New Mexicoâs First District spoke with SalonTV about the importance of equal representation in a democracy and what she plans to do if she takes office. âNative Americans are one of the groups who are most underrepresented in our country,â Haaland told Salon. âThere's still people in New Mexico, Native Americans who have never registered to vote. That's something I've worked on for a long, long time, making sure that underrepresented folks have a seat at the table.â Haaland has high hopes for inspiring other women get involved politically. âIf I win my seat that will help other native women to realize that they can run for office, whether it's Congress, whether it's school board, whether it's you know, state representative or state senator. I think it's important that we have diversity at every level and there are just not enough women of color in any elected office across the country,â she told Salon. Check out the video above to hear more about Haalandâs historic campaign as well as her outspoken criticism of President Trump. [Could midterms change everything?](
This year is shaping up to be one of the most important election years in American politics and itâs all because of Donald Trump and his approach to governing. Brian Klaas, an American fellow at the London School of Economics, joined âSalon Talksâ to talk midterms and share his theory, âThe Trump Vaccine,â which, depending on the election outcomes, could indicate Trumpâs lasting influence politics as a whole, forever defining not only the American political landscape, but democracies around the world. [The risky "Iceman Comethâ revival](
âThe Iceman Cometh,â starring Denzel Washington, is nominated for eight Tony Awards this year, but for director George C. Wolfe it wasnât a project he originally thought he would take on. The five-time Tony Award-winning director and playwright revealed on âSalon Talksâ that if he was going to direct a revival of the Eugene OâNeill classic, the project needed to have risk, and at first, he couldnât pinpoint any big artistic challenges. That all changed when he read OâNeill again. Wolfe told Salonâs executive editor Andrew OâHehir, âIceman is a slight departure, I normally don't like doing revivals because I figure, you know, always when I do a play there's gotta be an equation of risk and potential failure, you know, and when you're working on a new play, it's like, how do I do this and do we have the time and, so all of these huge questions engage, I think the, hopefully, the smartest part of me, and then when you're doing the revival, well somebody's already solved it. But then, so what do I have to offer for it?â Wolfeâs five Tony Awards cover different aspects of theater like playwriting, play direction and musical direction. Wolfe won Tonys for best direction with âAngels in America: Millennium Approachesâ and âBring in 'da Noise/Bring in 'da Funk.â Watch the video above to learn more about Wolfeâs vision for the show and watch the [full interview]( to hear his thoughts on the newest production of âAngels in America.â Tune in for SalonTV's live shows, ["Salon Talks"]( and ["Salon Stage"]( , daily at noon ET / 9 a.m. PT and 4 p.m. ET / 1 p.m. PT, streaming live on [Salon]( , [Facebook]( and [Periscope]( .
