The Dutch runner already earned the bronze medal in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters—now she adds a historic gold. [View in Browser]( [Runner's World Logo]( [SHOP]( [RW+ EXCLUSIVES]( [SUBSCRIBE]( Au Revoir From Paris 🇫🇷 As we watched Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands cap off the running events in Paris on Sunday morning with [a gold medal marathon run](, it was hard to keep the emotional chills from tingling up your spine. In the final kilometers of the women’s marathon, five of the best female marathoners of all time had a chance at not only making the podium, but taking home gold. It was thrilling to see a race this big—40 years after the first women’s Olympic marathon was held in Los Angeles—and how it was coming down to the final moments. Hassan’s impressive total Olympic run in 2024—more than 38 total miles—will go down as legendary. Two bronze medals (5,000 meters and 10,000 meters earlier this week), and gold on Sunday. The Olympics really returned to form in Paris with amazing crowds and incredible moments, and the athletes of track and field were a major part of that. It becomes hard to single out any one moment as the BEST of this week. (You can find our [full coverage here]( of nearly every major running event.) We’ll recall Hassan's triple, Grant Fisher’s double bronze in the 5,000 and 10,000, and people like Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, Sha’Carri Richardson, Noah Lyles, Femke Bol, Mondo Duplantis, Nikki Hiltz, Faith Kipyegon, Gabby Thomas, and so many more making their mark via their performances or by simply being at these games for a purpose. Thanks for the memories Paris, and au revoir. *** If you enjoyed the daily newsletter during the running portion of the Olympics, we suggest you become a [Runner’s World+ member](. Halfway through each night, they would switch positions—one would sleep in the backseat and the other would sleep in the passenger seat, reclined as far back as it would go. Truckers parked their rigs in nearby spots. This weekend? She was the top American in the Olympic Marathon, running a 2:24:44 for 12th place.
