Severe heatwave alert in Delhi, Check what IMD predicts for upcoming days Amid the prevailing heatwaves in the national capital, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) scaled up its warning to red alert in Delhi from its previously announced 'orange' alert. Significantly, the IMD also warned of a “very high likelihood of developing heat illness and heat stroke in all ages” if people did not take precautions to limit their exposure to the sun. The Weather Department advised people to stay hydrated and avoid all non-essential travel, especially during the afternoon. The maximum temperature in Delhi on Sunday was recorded at 44.9 degrees Celsius, six degrees above normal. While, the minimum temperature was recorded at 33.2 degrees Celsius, which is 5.7 degrees above the average for this season. The Meteorological Department also predicted heat wave and warm night on Monday.
