RPGnet Newsletter #112 September 26, 2017 New Columns Kirk Johnson-Weider, the Lawful GM addresses the issue of how tough a GM should make the challenges in their games in ["Difficulty Settings."]( Jonathan Hicks makes some more Observations from a Gamer's Chair, this time discussing keeping things interesting in games with modern settings in ["Modern Gaming Tips."]( New Reviews Cedric Chin kicked things off with a look at three products in the revived Paranoia RPG line: - ["Paranoia Red Clearance Edition,"]( the corebook, offers a streamlined, rules-light, version of the venerable game system with new mechanics that should be easy to follow, and additional ideas you can add or ignore at your leisure. - The ["Paranoia Interactive Screen"]( combines a traditional GM-screen with a clever play aid for combat scenes. - And, the ["Paranoia Forms Pack"]( offers multiple copies of several critical sheets. Antonios S then continued his look at miniatures packs for the Cthulhu Wars miniatures game with ["Ramsey Campbell Horrors 1"]( and ["Ramsey Campbell Horrors 2,"]( both of which add some new monsters and mechanics to the base game. Antonios also reviewed three items in Mongoose Publishing's Traveller Second Edition RPG line: - The corebook, ["Traveller Second Edition,"]( presents an effectively setting-agnostic, RPG rulesystem that can tackle practically every sci-fi sub-genre and which already receives and will keep on receiving tons of guaranteed support in the following decade. - The ["Referee's Screen"]( carries a steep price and unfortunately has some rules inconsistencies with the corebook. - The ["Central Supply Catalogue,"]( by contrast, is a must-have book for the hard sci-fi environments that Traveller wishes to emulate. What RPG player doesn't love shopping, after all? Minivera looked at ["The Name of God,"]( a 3 to 4 players nano story game written on a small manual; more of a pseudo-boardgame than RPG. And, Sir Corvus wrapped up the week with a review of ["Battle for the Purple Islands,"]( a brief but densely packed and colourful gonzo (mostly) system-neutral adventure.
