[Check out Rotoworld.com Season Pass]( To read this article on Rotoworld.com [click here]( [Player News]( | [Columns]( | [Injuries]( | [Transactions]( | [Depth Charts]( | [Scoreboard]( | [Tickets]( Daily Dose: Iglesias Injured - 05/24/2018 BY Nathan Grimm [Play DRAFT]( LATEST FANTASY BASEBALL HEADLINES [- Kenta Maeda strikes out 12 in dominant win]( [- Adam Engel has big night in win over Orioles]( [- Welington Castillo to get 80-game suspension]( [- Tyson Ross dominant in victory over Nats]( [- Verlander whiffs nine in victory over Giants]( [- Gary Sanchez (calf) sitting out Wednesday]( [- Marco Gonzales fires seven shutout innings]( An injury to his non-pitching arm will keep [Raisel Iglesias]( from doing just that -- pitching -- for at least the next week. Iglesias hit the 10-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained left biceps. Iglesias said it's an issue he's been living with in recent weeks but that after a blown save Sunday he decided it was too much to pitch through. “I’ve been pitching like this for the last three weeks,” Iglesias [said Wednesday](. “Sunday, I wake up and (thought), ‘I can’t pitch like this. I can’t get my full extension.’ I decided to talk to the trainers. I let them know my issue. “Before Sunday, everything was fine. I could pitch with the pain. But after Sunday, I said I don’t want to go out there and pitch and hurt the team.” Editor’s Note: Fantasy Baseball season is here! [Here's the link]( The upshot is that it's not his pitching arm, elbow or shoulder, so once he's over the injury he should be fine. And when healthy, he's been terrific this year, posting a 2.08 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 27/8 K/BB ratio over 21 2/3 innings of work. In his absence, Reds manager Jim Riggleman said a number of options are in play to finish games. Riggleman named [Jared Hughes](, [Michael Lorenzen](, [Amir Garrett]( and [Wandy Peralta]( as possibilities. Hughes and Garrett have been the best non-Iglesias relievers this year, but the reality is the situation-specific nature of the few save chances the Reds will have over the next week make none of the options terribly appealing. Iglesias owners may be better off using the freed up roster spot on a starter with a favorable matchup or a strong-ratio reliever. Castillo Latest In Line For 80-Game Ban In the wake of [Robinson Cano]('s suspension for performance-enhancing drugs, rumors swirled around another major leaguer Wednesday. The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal [confirmed reports]( out of the Dominican Republic that White Sox catcher [Welington Castillo]( will be handed an 80-game suspension for violating the league's drug policy. Rosenthal said Castillo's suspension would be for a performance-enhancing drug, but not a steroid as originally reported. Neither the White Sox nor Castillo confirmed the report late Wednesday. Castillo played in Wednesday's win over the Orioles, picking up a single in five at-bats. The loss of Castillo until late August would obviously be disappointing but not devastating for a team not going anywhere in 2018. [Kevan Smith]( will likely be recalled to take Castillo's spot on the roster, and Smith and [Omar Narvaez]( should split duties post-dish until Castillo returns. Smith, for what it's worth, is hitting .283/.343/.457 with four homers in 25 games at Triple-A Charlotte and would be the AL-only catcher to own between the two. Likewise, losing Castillo, who's hitting .267/.309/.466 with six homers and 14 RBI, would be undesirable for fantasy owners, but not something that couldn't be overcome. Other players with similar Yahoo ownership who may be available include [Jonathan Lucroy](, [John Hicks]( and [Tucker Barnhart](. Something official should be handed down by MLB Thursday. Ozuna Sleeps, Sits Wednesday Anxious fans might suggest [Marcell Ozuna]( has been sleepwalking through some at-bats lately. Sleeping through games? Well, that's another thing entirely. Ozuna was a late scratch from Wednesday's businessman's special against the Royals after he overslept. "I came to the park and said sorry to my teammates and my coach," Ozuna [said following the Cardinals' 5-2 loss](. "Everybody makes a mistake. Today it was me." "He's human. Things happen," Cardinals manager [Mike Matheny]( said. "This guy couldn't possibly be a better teammate, how he goes about it. And he couldn't be more regretful to not be here today on time. We don't have a lot a lot of rules, but that's one of them. You're not here on time, you don't get to be in the lineup. He understands that; now we move forward." Even though he had been in the original lineup, even that hasn't been a guarantee for the outfielder during his struggles at the dish. Through 44 games, Ozuna is hitting .253/.295/.331 and with the emergence of [Tyler O'Neill]( as an offensive threat, both Ozuna and [Dexter Fowler]( have taken a seat in recent days. The good news is it sounds as though Matheny or Ozuna's teammates won't hold it against him. If anything, perhaps this lights a fire under the 27-year-old -- you know, a wake-up call. American League Quick Hits: [Mitch Haniger]( (wrist) was out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics. Haniger sat with a contusion in his right wrist, and Jon Andreoli took his place in the lineup and make his major league debut. Haniger suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch by [Trevor Cahill](, and is considered day-to-day with x-rays coming back negative. A trip to the disabled list will likely be avoided ... [Jean Segura]( (shoulder) was back in the lineup Wednesday, batting first and playing shortstop on Wednesday against the Athletics. Segura jammed his shoulder when he slid into [Jonathan Lucroy]('s leg while scoring the go-ahead run in an extra-innings victory over the A's on Tuesday, but the injury didn't keep him down for long. Segura went hitless in four at-bats in Wednesday's contest ... Athletics placed DH [Khris Davis]( on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to May 21 with a right groin strain. Davis was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain after an MRI on Tuesday. He suffered the injury on a swing against the Blue Jays on Sunday's series finale, and was out of the lineup on Tuesday against the Mariners. Wednesday's move wasn't unexpected ... [Gary Sanchez]( (calf) was not in the Yankees' lineup Wednesday. Sanchez departed Tuesday's game with a calf cramp. He could be ready to go Friday after Thursday's off day. [Austin Romine]( caught Wednesday ... [Justin Verlander]( allowed three hits and one run over six dominant innings Wednesday in the Astros’ win over San Francisco. He cashed out with nine strikeouts and only one walk over 97 pitches. The only hint of trouble for Verlander came in the fourth when [Gorkys Hernandez]( led off the inning with a triple to center field and later scored on a sac fly by [Buster Posey](. Incredibly, Verlander’s ERA actually went up (from 1.05 to 1.08) as a result of Wednesday’s outing ... [Adam Engel]( had a career day at the dish in Wednesday's blowout win over the Orioles, going 4-for-4 with a homer, three runs scored, two RBI and a stolen base. His two-run blast off of [Pedro Araujo]( in the fifth inning increased the White Sox' lead to 9-1. All three of his other hits were singles. The 26-year-old defensive-minded center fielder entered play on Wednesday as a .171/.242/.268 hitter in 460 plate appearances at the major league level, so to say Wednesday's game was out of the ordinary is an understatement. National League Quick Hits: [Clayton Kershaw]( (biceps) threw an extended bullpen session on Wednesday. Manger [Dave Roberts]( told reports that Kershaw "felt good" after the bullpen, although he added that it was more about how he felt physically than his execution. The star southpaw will next throw a simulated game on Saturday assuming there are no setbacks from the bullpen, and then he'll likely make 1-2 rehab starts before rejoining the Dodgers' rotation at some point in early June ... [Ryan Braun]( (back) will be activated off the disabled list on Thursday. Braun was placed on the disabled list on May 14, so he'll spend just the minimum amount of time on the disabled list. The veteran All-Star has not gotten off to a strong start this season, hitting .222/.268/.413 with five homers and four stolen bases over 37 games ... [Kenta Maeda]( was brilliant for a second consecutive start Wednesday, shutting out the Rockies while striking out 12 over 6 2/3 innings in a 3-0 win. Maeda tossed eight scoreless innings against the Marlins his last time out, and with Wednesday's outing he's now got a 3.38 ERA with 66 strikeouts in 50 2/3 innings of work this year ... [Tyson Ross]( was excellent in a win over the Nationals on Wednesday, allowing one run in 6 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts in a 3-1 victory. [Matt Adams]( had three hits and a homer off of Ross. The rest of the Nationals lineup had two hits total. It's just another in an excellent stretch of starts for the 31-year-old right-hander, and his ERA is now down to 3.13 on the season ... [Jacob deGrom]( punched out eight batters while firing seven shutout frames but had to settle for a no-decision as his team lost to the Marlins on Wednesday. He left the game with a 1-0 lead but the Marlins came back to win in the final frame. DeGrom scattered four singles and two walks in the gem outing. His record holds at 4-0 with an awesome 1.54 ERA and 0.99 WHIP after 10 starts. He has 77 strikeouts and 16 walks in 58 1/3 innings.
