That girl is me, friend. I grew up the daughter of a maid and a janitor, living with my six siblings

[Gif with changing photos of Val Demings throughout her life.]( That girl is me, friend. I grew up the daughter of a maid and a janitor, living with my six siblings in a two-bedroom, A-frame home in Jacksonville. With a lot of hard work, I became the first in my family to graduate college – and then, I entered the police academy at a time when there were hardly any Black women working as officers. People told me I didn't belong in the force, but I risked my life to protect my community, working the night shifts as a beat cop. Years later, I became the first woman to serve as Orlando's chief of police. I'm no stranger to adversity, friend. That's why it doesn't faze me when people like the chair of the Republican National Committee attack me personally, or when the GOP launches desperate attack ads to defeat me. I always keep my eye on the prize, but the truth is I know I can't win this race alone. So I need your help right now to make sure Floridians aren't swayed by these lies. [The Republican Party is already proving they will spend whatever it takes to regain Senate control, so if you're with me – if you want to elect me as Florida's next senator and expand our majority in the Senate – please donate $5 or more, split between me and Jacky Rosen, before my midnight deadline.]( Thank you so much for joining this grassroots movement. It means so much to me to have you by my side. Val Demings This email was sent to {EMAIL}.
