Inflation still above Fed's target ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Consumer price inflation is at the lowest level in nearly two years. Inflation is slowing, but it hasn't stopped. The CPI was up 0.4% in April. Now, that's a sizable increase from last month (just 0.1%) but it means that inflation year-over-year is just 4.9%. That's actually down from March. The last time it was this low was April 2021. Why does this matter? Obviously, slower growth in inflation indicates the Fed may let up on interest rate hikes. While actually lowering the rates has been all but ruled out... The Fed has given us some reasons to believe it is done actually increasing rates. Quite a few times we've seen investors overreact to news like this... A lot of people are very invested in the idea that the Fed is about to lower interest rates, but I don't see it happening. I also wouldn't be too sure about the Fed being done with rate hikes... Keep in mind the Fed's inflation target is 2%. We're at 4.9% - and that's the best the USA has done in a while. We have a long way to go... and the interest rate hikes may continue until the CPI improves. Keep Moving, Corey Snyder Publisher, Rogue Investing P.S. The Tech Reckoning is upon us.
