Earnings reports will shape the whole market ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ After the failure of Silicon Valley Bank, everything is focused on the future of the financial sector. And this is probably the biggest week possible in terms of earnings. We've got Charles Schwab reporting today. Bank of America tomorrow. Morgan Stanley on Wednesday. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is, well, banking on banks cutting back on loans (more on this below). Her hope is that this means the Fed doesn't need to jack up rates to cut down on credit. But the problem with this theory is that banks make their money by extending these loans. And here's the thing about bailouts... it totally removes moral hazard. What big bank seriously thinks they are going to be on the hook if too many of those loans go south? "Too big to fail" is basically policy now... and you better believe Wall Street knows it. There's a lot on the line, so let's hope banks post some solid returns. Otherwise our political leadership is going to have to make some hard choices... And I don't think our system is capable of decisions like that anymore. Keep Moving, Corey Snyder Publisher, Rogue Investing WORD ON THE STREET Coke Strike, Yellen's Wishful Thinking, Burnin' Coal - Will Banks Cut Back? - Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen argues that banks are likely to restrict lending in coming weeks, thus removing the need for the Fed to restrict credit with more interest rate hikes. "Banks are likely to become somewhat more cautious in this environment," she said in a recent interview, arguing banks have already been tightening lending standards. - G7 Fails To Set Deadline On Ending Coal - Despite lofty rhetoric, the leaders of the G-7 nations couldn't set a deadline on phasing out coal fueled power plants. They did promise to reach net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 - but that's a long time from now. Well, at least Germany has nuke plants right? About that... more details below - Biotech Deals Back On The Menu Boys! - A blockbuster biotech deal as Merck is buying Prometheus Biosciences Inc. for a reported $10.8 billion. That's about $200 per share - a shocking increase over the closing price of $114.01 on Friday. - STRIKE STRIKE STRIKE - Organized labor's rising fortunes have hit Coca-Cola. Teamsters Local 830 are on strike at the bottling plant in Philadelphia. The union represents an estimated 3,000 workers, including drivers, warehouse workers, and sales and marketing personnel. HOT SPOTS: What's Going on in Geopolitics - Trouble In Paradise - Or at least the EU. Poland and Hungary have banned agricultural imports from Ukraine on the grounds they violated EU guarantees. However, the EU has slammed the decision, calling it "unacceptable." - Easter Prisoner Exchange – About 130 Ukrainian prisoners of war were freed in a prisoner exchange with Russia timed for Easter. There's no confirmation of how many Russians were freed but a video from the Wagner Corporation confirmed an exchange took place. - Putin Meets With Defense Minister From China - President Vladimir Putin and Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu met with Chinese Defense Minister Li Shangfu Sunday in another indication of growing Chinese-Russian ties. China's new Defense Minister is already under American sanctions, so the meeting was likely a deliberate signal (or slight) to the United States. CUTTING EDGE: What[']( )s Happening In Tech - Germany Closes Its Nuclear Plants - Germany has closed its last three nuclear plants as of last Saturday. Germany's Federal Minister for the Environment and Consumer Protection, a Green Party member, claims nuclear energy is neither "clean" nor "sustainable." - Musk Preparing OpenAI Challenger – On March 9, Elon Musk started a business called X. AI in late March. Musk has been a major critic of the lack of regulation surrounding AI and has often mused that AI poses a civilizational challenge. - SpaceX's Biggest Test - SpaceX has received permission from the government to test Starship, possibly as soon as this morning. Elon Musk has tried to set low expectations for the flight, but it is a major step forward for the rocket that could take Americans to Mars. "Just Don't Blow Up The Launchpad," Said Musk About His Hopes FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION --------------------------------------------------------------- "The key going forward will be a focus on AI and aerospace and naval technology." The world's next arms race is underway. The USA, France, Germany, Japan, and others are all beefing up their militaries. And while the war is in Ukraine today, nations are preparing for conflict in the Pacific tomorrow. Mr. X has some picks to help you take advantage. [THE NEXT ARMS RACE]( ) Enjoying Dawn Report?
