Or at least trick us all ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Elon Musk, along with other powerful people, are calling for an outright pause on Artificial Intelligence. Here's what comes next - nothing. It's not happening. Even Elon Musk said as much on Twitter. He argued that it was important that at least someone said something. I can't agree. Only action matters. And here's the truth - you can't stop progress. There are times in history when you delay it. You can even outright pause it for a while. One of the most famous examples is when Japan banned gunpowder in an attempt to freeze its feudal system in place. It worked for centuries... until an American warship sailed up and told the Japanese the wider world was knocking. That may seem like a crude example - but external adversaries and competitors are what's going to drive AI. No country can afford to "pause" AI because of the massive benefits it promises for national economies... even when there is going to be devastating disruptions. Perhaps there was a time when the global community could come up with a common solution - but that time is past. [(Don't miss Mr. X on the war on the dollar today.)]( ) You can't stand still. You can't be content. You can only... Keep Moving, Corey Snyder Publisher, Rogue Investing WORD ON THE STREET Congressional Showmanship, AI Warnings, Toyota Comeback - "Dangerous Race" - Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak, Andrew Yang, and other tech and political leaders caused for a pause on all AI more powerful than GPT-4. "Contemporary AI systems are now becoming human-competitive at general tasks, and we must ask ourselves: "Should we let machines flood our information channels with propaganda and untruth?" asked the open letter. I mean, what do they think happens now? I thought these were smart guys. - The United States Congress - "REEEEEEEEEEEEE!" - Congressmen tried to outdo each other in performative outrage during a second day of hearings on the bankruptcy of Silicon Valley Bank. "We need competent financial supervisors, but Congress can't legislate competence," said House Financial Services Chairman Patrick McHenry (R-NC). California Democrat Maxine Waters went farther. "The light touch cautions from the Fed to SVB management are clearly not what Congress intended for bank supervision," she said. Rep. Juan Vargas (D-CA) to the Fed: "It seems like [Silicon Valley Bank] blew you guys off, and you didn't do anything!" - Toyota Racks Up A Record - Toyota reported a global sales record for February as a parts shortage eased. Global sales were up 10.3%, including an astonishing 53.2% in domestic sales. Worldwide production was up to 755,839 vehicles, beating the goal of 750,000. - THE EGG LOBBY - Didn't The Simpsons make a joke about this years ago? Egg prices are up, and manufacturers are cashing in. Cal-Maine Foods, the country's top egg producer, made $323 million in quarterly profits - up from just $39.5 million a year ago. CNN tells us to eat ramen to fight the budget crunch. What are we, college students? Next they'll be telling us to eat bugs. (Oh wait, they already do.) HOT SPOTS: What's Going on in Geopolitics - Helicopter Crash Destroys To Blackhawks - The fate of Army soldiers are unknown as this time after two Army Blackhawks crashed in training in Kentucky. "The command is currently focused on carling for the servicemembers and their families," read a statement from Fort Campbell. - No More Nuke Info – Russian-American relations continue to decline. Russia is no longer cooperating with the new START treaty and will not give information on its nuclear weapons program to Washington. "All notifications, all kinds of notifications, all activities within the framework of the treaty will be suspended and will not be conducted regardless of what position the US may take," said Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister. At least they are being clear about their position. - North Korea Feels Lonely, Makes Up Weapons Claim - Don't get too freaked out, it does this every time they think we aren't paying enough attention to them. North Korea claims it has an underwater nuclear attack drone that can cause "radioactive tsunamis." The South Korean military, meaning the people whose budgets go up if people believe such ridiculous claims, said it's "high likely" this is "exaggerated and manipulated." CUTTING EDGE: What[']( )s Happening In Tech - Ads Hit Bing Chat - Despite pleas to halt AI, Microsoft is moving forward. And you know what that means - ads, ads, ADS! The company says it is "exploring additional capabilities for publishers including our more than 7,500 Microsoft Start partner brands." - BrainStorm Cell Therapeutics Challenging ALS Scale – The Revised-ALS Functional Rating Scale is the measure doctors and patients use around the world to rate the progress of the terrifying muscle neuron disease ALS. However, it's rather crude methodology is under attack from BrainStorm Cell Therapeutics, maker of the treatment NurOwn. NurOwn fell short in a clinical trial, but the company says the scale itself may not capture the treatment's benefits. In a study led by scientists from the company, researchers charge the current scale "is hampered by its ability to measure function in those with low functional status." If the challenge is taken up, it would change the way drugs are tested. - Matt Damon Explains Himself On Bitcoin - Perhaps the entire crypto collapse was his fault. We all remember that ridiculous crypto ad starring Matt Damon, telling us that "fortune favors the brave." It came out right before crypto plummetted. The actor said he did the ad to try to raise money for his charity. "We had a down year in Water.org and I did that commercial in an attempt to raise money for Water.org," he said. You know who else had a down year? Almost everyone who bought crypto when they saw that ad. Note to self - don't take investing advice from people who pretend to be someone else for a living FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION --------------------------------------------------------------- "The war on the dollar is stepping up, and DC has only itself to blame." Russia clearly didn't expect the United States to respond as harshly as it did when it invaded Ukraine. But Moscow hasn't collapsed yet, and it is taking its fight to the dollar. It's not alone. Mr. X tells us about the real war happening right now. [WORLD WAR DOLLAR]( ) Enjoying Dawn Report? Learn something, made some money? SHARE YOUR STORY WITH US OR TELL US HOW TO SERVE YOU BETTER.
