I feel like football is becoming more like soccer. (And yes, it's called football, we Americans claim the word, the rest of the world is just wrong. I'm sorry, I don't make the rules.) What I mean is that everything is increasingly coming down to showmanship. Specifically, it comes down to showmanship for the referees. Flopping on the field, making a show of other players grabbing you, and generally performing like a clown in the hope of a favorable call is becoming more common. It's the thing that I hate about soccer, and increasingly, it's the thing I hate about football. Now, I won't presume to say who really won yesterday. My game is trading, not football. (Well, that and lifting. And jujitsu. But I digress.) The point is, the refs have a huge impact on the outcome of the game. And if you look at social media last night, everyone seems to know it. Unfortunately, I feel like that's becoming increasingly true when it comes to the trading environment. The Federal Reserve, government regulators, and other bureaucracies are necessary because someone has to set the rules. Without them, you have the equivalent of a game with no referee. But once the referee starts determining outcomes, and people start performing for the benefit of the referee, that's when you have a problem. As this is written, Asian markets are declining because traders are worried about what inflation data will show this week. Too often, traders are being guided by a kind of Kremlinology - betting on what bureaucrats will do or say rather than what the numbers are showing. Look, everything ultimately plays out in the technicals. It's just about having a system that works. You don't win every time any more than a football franchise wins every game. (Even Tom Brady didn't win it this year). But if you have a system that works, you walk away a winner. I've developed that with my DRAGNET system. [And until MIDNIGHT TONIGHT you can get in on a system that could earn you $1,000 a week.](

) COACH'S CORNER "Get ready for an interesting week. The CPI numbers coming out Tuesday will definitely lead to increased volatility. Remember when economic reports and FOMC meetings are about to happen, your options position values might swing wildly. Thatâs normal. Stay calm, stick to your plan, and follow your rules. If your stops are hit then so be it - when you place a trade there should be no regrets. No one knows yet what the report will show nor how the market will react so remember to listen to your indicators and never trade your opinions."
"For those looking to go long, definitely take a look at big oil. We saw a huge inflow into the energy sector last week and if my signals are correct that should continue. There may be a huge opportunity here so keep the big names on your watchlist. Companies like CVX, XOM, and ETFs such as XOP (daily chart below), XLE, GUSH, and NRGU could see some substantial upside in the near term. Remember to do your own analysis here - these are ideas, not alerts."

Chris Hood WORD ON THE STREET UFOs Shot Down, Fast Food Nation, The Apple Bank? - Purge The Xenos - An F-16 shot down a UFO flying over Lake Huron in Michigan, making it the fourth such incident in eight days. Republican lawmakers in Congress are demanding information as wild theories circulate online. While some are speculating about aliens, the more realistic scenario that these are probes from a foreign nation is hardly more comforting. - McDonald's, Yum Brands Leave Pricey Competitors Behind - It may not be best for your health, but betting on fast food seems the right move during a time of inflation. McDonalds (MCD) and Yum (YUM) brands are reporting that demand is holding up even as Chipotle Mexican Grill (CMG) surprised the Street with estimates that fell short. However, Burger King (or at least owner Restaurant Brands International, QSR) will test the trend when it reports this week. Fast, cheap food is what Americans want during tough times - Apple's "Pay Later" Coming... Later - Apple (AAPL) is having trouble getting its "Buy Now, Pay Later" system off the ground, according to columnist Mark Gurman. "It's clear that the financial push has proven more difficult than expected," he said. Technical and engineering challenges are preventing the company from moving totally into fintech, though the first trials of "Apple Pay Later" should be unveiled soon. - Tech Layoffs Reaching Ludicrous Speed - Will there even be a tech industry at the end of all this? Meta Platforms (META), i.e. Facebook, is reportedly planning another round of layoffs. While Mark Zuckerberg has promised a "Year of Efficiency," the Financial Times says the company is finding it hard to get any work done because managers can't plan on who will still be working at the company.
