Shutdown in Shanghai, surging cases, dropped travel requirements... pure chaos ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ No time off. We've got a shortened trading week followed by another shortened trading week coming up. It's very important not to lose momentum. There's some renewed enthusiasm this morning as investors seek to take advantage of relatively cheap stock prices. Yet we need to remember that all of this is being done against the background of a likely recession in late 2023 and early 2024. What's more, we're getting conflicting signals out of China. The government is lifting its COVID-19 travel quarantine policies, an astonishing turnabout from its zero-COVID policy. At the same time, yet another production shutdown is hitting Shanghai. Caseloads are also skyrocketing, and there are many questions about whether we can trust the figures coming out of the People's Republic. Remember the Luckin Coffee disaster in 2020? The company looked like the big challenger to Starbucks in China, and then it utterly collapsed. It's recovered sense, but investors have hopefully learned to remain very wary of the data we're getting. To change what Ronald Reagan said - mistrust and verify. Speaking of which, Mr. X analyzes the political bombshell that recently dropped on an entire market sector. The marijuana industry looked like it was on the peak of going mainstream. Weed stocks were investor favorites during the pandemic, and full legalization looks inevitable. Yet because of one senator, the entire sector has been dealt a body blow that some companies may never recover from. Of course, taking advantage of temporary misfortune is the whole secret of trading. All the formulas, charts, analysis, data, and mindset strategies ultimately boil down to buy low, sell high. Marijuana stocks are hitting a low... but Mr. X suggests some have farther to fall. Don't miss his column today. And stay connected, now more than ever. The DRAGNET is underway with our systematic analysis of just one stock - an approach that has secured more than 250 gains so far. [Click here for the details.]( ) For us, holidays really don't exist. Money never sleeps. There's always a bull market somewhere and someone is always trading somewhere. We need to be fast, determined, and utterly committed. We're here to win, not to play games. Let's finish 2022 strong. [Click this link right here for all the details]( ) WORD ON THE STREET Deadly Winter Storm, Flights At Standstill, China Chaos - China Opens Up - On January 8, China will drop quarantine requirements for international visitors. Until recently, those coming to the People's Republic had to stay in a hotel for five days and self-isolate for three more. China recently downgraded COVID-19 to a "Class B disease" - but this decision has more to do with getting its economy going again than public health. However, as cases spike, it's not unreasonable to suspect another about-face very soon. - A Frozen Hell - At least 28 people are dead in the Buffalo area after a brutal winter storm. The area has also been hit by looting, with about a dozen gas stations reporting that they have been victimized. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said that "the city of Buffalo is impassible in most areas." The death toll in the Buffalo area is now officially worse than that during the infamous Blizzard of 1977 - More Power Stations Vandalized - There's definitely something weird going on. Three electrical substations were vandalized near Tacoma, Washington, leaving thousands of people without power. This comes after attacks on power facilities in North Carolina and South Carolina earlier this month. Federal law enforcement is reportedly investigating, but it's not clear that all or even any of the incidents are linked. - Southwest Airlines Faces Travel Hell - Though many airlines are suffering from the bad weather, Southwest is in a category of its own. The airline reportedly canceled an astonishing 71% of its flights yesterday as of 10:50 PM Eastern Time. This included a blitz of 300 flights cancelled within 30 minutes. Videos of furious and frustrated would-be passengers swamped social media. Since the dawn of Rogue Investing Daily, Mr. X has been keeping his readers one step ahead… Forecasting picks with returns of 390% in under a year... 442% in less than a month... and 1,154% in 16 months... and urging subscribers to hold back from any new crypto investments right before the crypto bear market. [Stay ahead of market shifts and save 70% today.]( ) HOT SPOTS: What's Going on in Geopolitics - Wagner Head Visits Bakhmut - The Wagner private military company is increasingly becoming the face of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, especially in Bakhmut, a key transportation hub in Donbas. Yevgeniy Prigozhin visited his troops surrounding the city, where he heard complaints about reported ammunition shortages. Many analysts believe he is building an independent power base and may even be in a position to challenge the Defense Ministry. The battle itself continues, with heavy casualties on both sides. - Army Misses Recruitment Numbers – The American Army missed its recruitment targets by about 15,000 people, leading to a total shortfall of 20,000 soldiers. To put that in perspective, that's more than a full division. The Army is also expected to miss its target in fiscal 2023, leading to a total strength of 452,000 soldiers - at best. - China Solves Soaring Death Rates By Not Reporting Them - Wow, genius move guys. The National Health Commission is no longer reporting daily data about the number of deaths caused by COVID-19 in the country. Chinese hospitals are reportedly buckling under the strain of what is essentially the country's first widescale COVID-19 outbreak. Crematoriums are also reporting they can't keep up with demand - but with objective data hidden, there's no way to know for sure how bad it is getting. CUTTING EDGE: What[']( )s Happening In Tech - Tesla Hit With ANOTHER Shanghai Shutdown - Tesla (TSLA) investors will be nervous again today, as the company is stopping production at its Shanghai factory for eight days due to COVID-19 cases. There's also plummeting demand, as China suffers from a slowing economy and some customers in the West are turning against Elon Musk. The company reportedly has sufficient inventory to meet existing orders. - Best Password Storage Remains PostIt Notes – The whole point of LastPass is to make sure that your passwords are secure and encrypted - which makes it a pretty big deal when there's a hack. CEO Karim Toubba said that customer vault data was compromised after thieves stole and used cloud storage keys from an employee. No joke - if you are a LastPass customer, change your master password right now. It is no longer safe. - IRS Pauses New Reporting Guideline - Those who are running a side gig online can breathe a sigh of relief. The IRS is delaying a rule that would have forced taxpayers to receive a Form-1099 K and report revenue of $600 or above from Paypal, Venmo, CashApp and similar applications. Don't get too excited though - the IRS says this is simply a "transition period," meaning eventually this rule will be in effect FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION "Just because you’re paranoid doesn’t mean that they aren’t out to get you."Marijuana stocks were some of the big winners of the pandemic era - but investors may be wishing for some of the product, rather than the stocks, after last week. A major piece of legislation that would have solved the banking issues these companies were facing was crushed by Senator Mitch McConnell, and the entire industry is reeling. Mr. X breaks down the political situation and what comes next. [THE WEEDKILLER]( ) Enjoying Dawn Report? Learn something, made some money? SHARE YOUR STORY WITH US OR TELL US HOW TO SERVE YOU BETTER.
