Russia withdraws from grain deal; world hunger crisis looms
‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Surging food prices. Starvation. Mass hysteria.
No, not some lame Halloween joke. It's a real possibility now. A drone attack either crippled Russia's Black Sea Fleet (if you believe the Western press) or inflicted minor damage (if you believe Moscow). It's not even certain who is responsible, as there are the usual obfuscations that come with the fog of war. Either way, what's important is the consequence.
Russia has pulled out of an agreement that would allow grain shipments to the developing world. This has infuriated President Joe Biden. The effects may be dramatic. There was a crisis a few months ago when it looked like the war in Ukraine would cripple global food production. Ukraine is of course known for its vast fields of wheat (what do you think the yellow on the flag represents?) but it's also one of the world's leading sources of potash. Potash is an important ingredient in fertilizer and will be needed by farmers around the world.
The panic faded a few months ago when the agreement was signed... but with Russia out, looks like price gouging is back on the menu boys. (Wheat certainly isn't.) What's coming to mind is one of the last things our late friend Dr. Kent Moors told me. He predicted an Arab Spring 2.0 because of the consequences of the Russian invasion.
We've already got massive political instability in Iran and a war in Europe, so it might not take much to push some nations in other parts of the world to the brink. In the broadest strokes, our analysts, including the late Dr. Moors and "Mr. X," have seen this coming...
But the exact way it plays out can't be predicted without digging into the numbers. That's why it's especially important now to have a system that can analyze the countless technical signals that are coming in every second of every day. [That's why we have TRADECOMMAND... and we'll be unveiling it on Wednesday, November 2.](
