Controversy rages online as market stages relief rally ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Strong earnings from Bank of America and impressive figures from Roblox gave the market a relief rally. The fundamentals haven't changed - inflation is still raging, decoupling between China and the United States is slowly happening and the war in Ukraine is intensifying. Ukraine continues to build up for an offensive near Kherson while Russia - ominously - is pouring more troops into Belarus. That said, there were some major bullish indicators yesterday. The UK backed off from a financial plan many experts had called reckless. Bank of America and Bank of New York Mellon posted better than expected results. Treasuries recovered from lows and there was a greater sense of stability for the overall market. However, we may get some "surprises" soon, as JP Morgan Chase head Jamie Dimon recently warned. A number of big name companies - notably Tesla (TSLA) - are reporting earnings this week. Tesla especially could drive a host of other stocks (especially meme stocks) to skyrocketing gains or terrifying lows depending on how it shakes out. Remember, stay aware of the big picture but act based on technical signals. It's that two-part combination that will help you come out ahead when everyone else is panicking and reacting. Never just react. Always keep the initiative. Keep Moving, WORD ON THE STREET Banks Boom, Relief Rally, Ye Insanity - Banks Report All Is Well - In a market on the verge of panic, Bank of America (BAC) offered a soothing tonic. BAC was up 6% as it reported customers' cash balances are above where they were when COVID-19 hit. Third quarter results also topped analysts' expectations. Bank of New York Mellon Corporation (BK) also beat expectations and reported an increase in revenue. BK stock was up more than 5%.  - Elon Musk, Ye Contribute To Insanity - Kanye West, I mean, Ye, continued to cause havoc on social media for what many are calling his anti-Semitic remarks. However, he's reportedly purchasing the right-leaning social media platform Parler to avoid deplatforming. Adding to the chaos, Elon Musk posted a photoshopped tweet seeming to indicate a partnership between Parler and Twitter and telling us to "wait for it." (He later deleted it). If you're a Tesla (TSLA) shareholder, watch your blood pressure this week. This never happened, you imagined it - Much Needed Relief Rally - Banks and tech led the way as markets surged and took back the territory it lost last week. The Dow was up almost 551 points and the NASDAQ composite gained over 354 points, or 3.43%. While future economic data may show the United States is technically in a recession, some technical signals point to a short-term rally.  - Russian Fighter Jet Crashes Into Russian Apartment, Four Killed - A Russian SU-34 fighter crashed during a training flight yesterday, smashing into an apartment building in the city of Yeysk. One of the engines reportedly burst into flames after takeoff. At least four people have died and more than two dozen were injured. The pilots were able to eject. HOT SPOTS: What's Going on in Geopolitics - Suicide Drones Rock Kyiv - While Ukrainian forces prepare for an expected late autumn offensive and Russian infantry is advancing near Bakhmut in Donetsk, President Vladimir Putin is trying to crush Kyiv's morale. Unmanned "suicide" drones, most likely Iranian-produced Shahed-136s, hit power transmission stations in Kyiv as Russia tries to disrupt the Ukrainian power grid. - British Government In Meltdown – Just weeks after taking office, UK Prime Minister Liz Truss is facing massive opposition from within her own party. The Conservatives have already withdrawn their initial fiscal plan following a hostile reaction from the market. Now, "de facto" prime minister Jeremy Hunt, the new Finance Minister, is calming markets by presenting a more traditional financial plan instead of massive tax cuts. Polls show Labour would win in a rout if a General Election were held today.  - Saudi Arabia To Provide $400 Million In Aid To Ukraine - Saudi Arabia continues to play a delicate game in between Russia and Ukraine, infuriating Washington by refusing to increase oil production but simultaneously keeping strong relations with Kyiv. Following a conversation with Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced via state media that the Kingdom will provide $400 million in aid to Ukraine. CUTTING EDGE: What[']( Happening In Tech - Smartphone Prices Plunge - Inflation is hitting everything... well, almost everything. The latest Consumer Price Index showed that smartphone prices declined by 22%. However, the comparison is a little misleading. CPI compares prices of identical objects from year to year, and smartphones keep getting more advanced and offering more features. Prices may still be high, but the product itself is improving. It doesn't work the same way with goods like gasoline or milk.  - Leaked Report - Apple Headset Will Scan Eyeballs – According to a report from tech industry publication The Information, Apple is working on a VR headset that will feature iris-scanning technology that will let users log in and even make payments. It will also reportedly make it easier for multiple people to use the same device. - Roblox Gains Almost 20% On Strong User Data - Metaverse giant Roblox (RBLX) has been caught in the general tech decline but gained almost 20% after it reported greater than expected bookings and daily active user figures. The new figures show Roblox is on track to beat estimates for the next quarterly earnings report. The company will report third-quarter results on November 7 FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION "Sun Tzu said in The Art of War that a surrounded enemy must be left a means of escape lest they fight to the death out of desperation." "While President Biden diplomatically and economically strangles China, he should also leave China an out so Russia will remain an isolated, revisionist power facing a liberal world order that in many ways looks stronger than ever." Joe Biden declared economic war on China with his recent controls on computer chips. But could this move for containment actually spark a greater crisis? Mr. X breaks down the world scene.
