BIIB picks up almost 40% in one day ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ?

BIIB picks up almost 40% in one day ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ Don't ever count out America. The country has problems. But compared to the rest of the world, the American economy's future looks positively idyllic. The market came roaring back yesterday, with energy and biotech leading the way. Cheniere Energy, Inc. (LNG) was up around 9%, as further cutbacks in Russian natural gas to Europe opened the doors for American companies. Pharmaceutical titan Biogen (BIIB) is up almost 40% after tests for a new Alzheimer's drug showed exciting results in combatting this dreaded disease. The United States is also sending more advanced weaponry to Ukraine, even as that nation nears what looks like another crushing victory in the northeastern theater of the war. As Mr. X writes today, "The death of the American Empire has been greatly exaggerated." However, that's not true of the rest of the world. The British economic situation is truly dire, with even the International Monetary Fund scolding His Majesty's Government. Europe is facing utter ruin with gas prices surging. The World Bank just cut China's growth forecast, with the overall outlook seen as dismal. The only countries that have it worse are arguably Turkey and Russia. This doesn't mean that the American economy is doing well. At best, we're still heading for the soft landing that the Fed is trying to steer us towards. At worst, the damage is done and we're plunging into recession. Yet it's some small comfort to know that America really does have advantages that the rest of the world doesn't, especially when it comes to sovereignty, energy, and security. The American government has a freedom of action that other governments can only envy. And as for the dollar - it's just getting stronger, hitting a 20 year high. That should be the goal for all of us - more wealth, more power, each and every day. Keep Moving, Any strategy that makes you money consistently is worthwhile. The International Monetary Fund has ripped the incoming British government's program of debt-funded tax cuts to restart economic growth, as inflation is already nearing 10%.  - Hurricane Ian Makes Landfall – Hurricane Ian is nearing Category 5 status as it makes landfall in Florida. Hundreds of thousands are already without power and max winds have hit 155 mph. The National Weather Service warned residents not to explore newly revealed coastlines, as the hurricane is so powerful that it sucked water away from beaches and shorelines. "The water WILL come back," tweeted the NWS. "Please do not attempt to walk there or any other location with receding water." - Ukraine Approaching Another Crushing Victory – President Vladimir Putin's celebration for "new" Russian territories is about to hit a major snag. In the face of major casualties, Ukraine has all but surrounded Russian forces in Lyman, a key strategic location in northern Donetsk. Losing the critical railroad junction could prove the final step for Ukrainian forces to liberate another chunk of occupied territory. - Netflix Shrugs Off Threats - A recent survey found as many as one in four current Netflix (NFLX) subscribers are considering canceling their subscriptions over planned cost increases. However, the stock shrugged off investors' fears yesterday, picking up more than 9% and leading a market rally. "3-Pillar" strategy spots a 108% surge in just 4 days... HOT SPOTS: What's Going on in Geopolitics - Little Suspense In Brazilian Election - Polls show that former president Luiz Inacio da Silvia (Lula) has an all but insurmountable lead over current President Jair Bolsonaro. In fact, his lead is so decisive that the only question is whether Lula will win an outright majority in the first round of the election, something that hasn't happened since 1998. - North Korea Tests Two More Missiles – In a possible response to Vice President Kamala Harris's planned visit to South Korea, North Korea tested two more missiles. Both traveled about 200 miles before splashing into the sea between Korea and Japan.  - New War Just Dropped - New satellite imagery shows that Eritrea is massing huge military forces on the northern region of Tigray. Though Ethiopia and Eritrea are regional rivals, the two militaries have worked together to fight against the Tigray People's Liberation Front (TPLF). The United Nations has alleged that Ethiopia has committed war crimes against rebel populations, while the Tigray rebels allege Eritrea is also serving as part of the repressive campaign. CUTTING EDGE: What[']( Happening In Tech - F-35 Cost Is "Just" $412 Billion - Hey, by Defense Department standards, this is chump change. A new report from shows that the cost of the fifth generation F-35 fighter has increased to $412 billion from $398 billion. And you know how long these things take to develop - when Lockheed Martin (LMT) originally won the contract to develop the fighter, the cost was expected to be just $233 billion. Good enough for government work I suppose. - Turkey Cuts Off Russia – After massive pressure from Washington, three Turkish banks that were still doing business with Russian credit cards have pulled out of the country. It was just last week that the American Treasury Department warned Turkey that it needed to stop doing business with Russia or risk sanctions on Ankara. "They are threatened with secondary sanctions on the banking system," complained a Kremlin spokesman. "And this decision, of course, was made under this unprecedented pressure." The geopolitical struggle is increasingly forcing its way into a once united global payment system, dividing the world into different self-contained networks. - Big Pharma Tries Again On Alzheimer's - Biogen (BIIB) was the subject of huge controversy when its Alzheimer's drug Aduhelm was approved by the FDA despite questionable results and a high cost. However, its new medication, lecanemab, reportedly slowed cognitive decline in a late stage clinical trial. BIIB was up more than 30% while its partner, Japanese firm Eisai, was also up big.  The drugs target the buildup of amyloid protein in the brain, something that occurs with age and which some believe causes the disease FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION "Today it’s the United States that looks relatively stronger compared to every other power bloc in the world. In the wake of the destruction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, Europe is more dependent than ever on American natural gas." Europe is entering recession. Russia has become a pariah. China's economy is floundering. The United Kingdom is being scolded by the International Monetary Fund like a petulant child. It puts America's problems into perspective, doesn't it? The economy may be in trouble, but relative to other powers, the United States of America is extending its dominance. Mr. X explains the bigger story behind the headlines.
