Earnings report will be key for retail ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ This is hitting just before Walmart (WMT) reports earnings, so I'll make it fast. Walmart is gearing up for competition with Amazon (AMZN)... and it just took a big step. Walmart has reportedly signed an agreement with Paramount Global (PARA) to offer Paramount+ to Walmart+ members. Remember, there was some talk not long ago that WMT was exploring a partnership with Disney (DIS). Presumably that is off the table now, but we can rule nothing out. Yet despite this bombshell, that's not what I'm focused on today. Walmart's earnings report is bigger than just one company - even a company as big as WMT. The short-term consequences of this report are going to be far more important than whatever long-term schemes are being cooked up in Bentonville, Arkansas. It's going to provide an invaluable look at how retail is faring in this country... and whether we've seen the worst of inflation. On Wednesday, the Census Bureau will provide data on this for the entire country. It's no exaggeration to say that whether we are at the beginning of a renewed bull market may be entirely dependent on these reports. The Biden Administration has been trying to downplay inflation, even (absurdly) claiming that it is zero. This is obviously nonsense - but the president is making a very important point. It is no longer growing. Gas prices are declining. As you'll see below, some people (one famous figure in particular) are seeing major problems developing, but for every pessimistic projection, you can find plenty of reasons for hope. What's the solution to this confusing situation? Teamwork. Your Options Coach Chris Hood breaks down how to view the market objectively, without being sucked into one narrative or another. Remember, you have one of the best traders in the game at your back. No one can beat the market alone. But in solidarity, there is strength. We'll see how the news breaks in just a few minutes. Either way, then we go forth and conquer. Keep Moving, Any strategy that makes you money consistently is worthwhile. Though many new traders believe that trading is primarily about indicators and tools, Chris maintains that it is at least 95% about emotional control. This is especially relevant in this bearish, choppy market which has made the trading world extremely difficult. Learn some pro tips to come back from your losses and stay in the game. [CLICK HERE TO WATCH]( WORD ON THE STREET The Big Short, Walmart Takes On Amazon, Pfizer Failure? - Michael Burry Cashes Out - Everyone knows Michael Burry from "The Big Short," the film that showed how he predicted (and profited from) the financial collapse. So it's a bit concerning that he's basically liquidated his entire portfolio according to a new SEC filing. Burry has been extremely bearish, warning of the "greatest speculative bubble of all time in all things." Of course, he did buy one stock - Geo Group (GEO), which works with private prisons and mental health facilities. It's actually kind of hilarious how dystopian this is.  - Physician, Heal Thyself – Albert Bourla, CEO of Pfizer, has COVID-19. The 60-year-old corporate leader said he's hoping for a "speedy recovery" and is trusting his own company's treatment, Paxlovid. Mr. Bourla said he was "thankful to have received four doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine" and added he's only suffering "mild symptoms." We've come a long way from the times when vaccines were supposed to prevent all this - Arkansas Versus Amazon – With Walmart's quarterly earnings report literally just minutes away, the retail titan finally made its move when it comes to streaming entertainment. The company reportedly has inked a partnership with Paramount to make Paramount+ a free perk for those who are members of Walmart+. Both WMT and PARA were up slightly during the trading day and after-hours. - Buffett Big On Apple, Down On Verizon - Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway is sticking with the basics. In the second quarter, it increased the number of shares in Apple (AAPL) to 894.8 million  - an estimated $122.3 billion at the end of June. However, Berkshire dropped its entire stake in Verizon (VZ). Other than Apple, top holdings for Berkshire Hathaway at the end of the second quarter included Bank of America (BAC), Coca-Cola (KO), and Chevron (CVX). HOT SPOTS: What's Going on in Geopolitics - Kissinger Warns Of World War – Former Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Henry Kissinger had harsh words for America's current geopolitical strategy - or lack thereof. "We are at the edge of war with Russia and China on issues which we partly created, without any concept of how this is going to end or what it's supposed to lead to," he said. He argued that it is no longer possible to play China and Russia against each other as he famously did during his tenure, instead saying "all you can do is not to accelerate the tensions and to create options, and for that you have to have some purpose." - Military Patrols Tijuana After Cartel Violence – The shell-shocked Mexican state of Baja California is struggling to recover from recent violence after the Jalisco New Generation drug cartel essentially shut down the region late last week. Thousands of troops are now guarding the area and the American consulate has lifted its order for personnel to "shelter in place," but it's unclear how long the peace will last.  - Ukraine's "Best Pilot" KIA - Anton Lystopad, honored just a few days ago by Ukrainian president Volodymr Zelenskyy, was reportedly killed in action by Russian forces. He had recently received the Order for Courage, 3rd class. The exact circumstances of his death have not been revealed by Ukraine. CUTTING EDGE: What[']( Happening In Tech - Musk Must Get Twitter Executive's Documents - Elon Musk scored a tactical victory in his legal battle with Twitter, with Chancellor Kathaleen McCormick of the Delaware Court of Chancery ordering that Twitter must produce key documents surrounding bots and spam accounts. Specifically, Twitter needs to cough up records from former General Manager of Consumer Product Kayvon Beykpour, who reportedly was heavily involved in determining the number of bots on the network. - Back To The Office – How do you get them back into the office once they've seen Zoom meetings? Apple is the latest tech company struggling to get its workers to come back to, well, work. After more than a year of delays, Apple is rolling out a new "hybrid" work schedule that will require employees to come into the office at least three days a week starting on September 5. - End Of The Challenger - Pour one out for a real one. Dodge is ending its gas-powered Challenger and Charger cars by the end of next year. Instead, it's going to be all about electric. CEO Tim Kuniskis has suggested that there could be a new "Golden Age of muscle cars" as electrification takes over, but gear-heads will mourn the end of some of the most iconic models. Civilization is crumbling FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION "In my world, trends aren’t defined by opinion. Instead, I utilize a proprietary mix of indicators that establish a ‘volatility band’ around a ticker’s price action". right, there's a lot of suspense about what the market is doing. (And we all know Michael Burry of Big Short fame just cashed out.) But following the crowd will just lead to a dead end. Your Options Coach Chris Hood breaks down how to know what's really happening with the stock market. He's got the tools for the trade... and they are at your disposal.
