But massive debt could spoil the party
‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ What is the "real economy?" It's easy to just get caught up in the numbers... To lose yourself in the patterns... I admit, sometimes I start looking at a trade driven by technical signals... without even heavily researching what the company actually does. Now, of course, eventually I break it down. But it raises a fundamental question about what this is all for. The economy isn't something abstract. What we are tracking in the stock market eventually translates into the real things we use every day... Not just the high-tech gadgets and streaming entertainment but the basics - food, metals, fertilizer... the necessities that we all too often take for granted. I get the feeling we are all going to be reminded of the necessities very, very soon. Even as this is written, Europe is suffering through a massive heat wave... Germany is dealing with a potentially catastrophic energy crisis... And food shortages could become a reality in the developing world. The takeaway? Don't ever lose sight of what we are actually doing here. It's not some kind of computer game purely driven by numbers. It's not gambling and I hate when people talk about it that way. We're making investments in the companies that meet human desires, and, more importantly, needs. As the world stands on the brink of a recession, we all need to do some thinking about what is truly important... In investment, in the economy, and in life. Take this moment to set some goals about what you are trying to achieve with your trading. It's our job to help you meet those goals. And remember... if you are having trouble, don't be afraid to reach out.
It's what we are here for, and we are all in this together. Keep Moving, Any strategy that makes you money consistently is worthwhile. This is especially relevant in this bearish, choppy market which has made the trading world extremely difficult. Learn some pro tips to come back from your losses and stay in the game. Kind Of. – General Electric (GE) is an iconic American company, but sometimes things have to change. Three divisions will be operating as independent businesses as they are spun off over the next few years. GE Healthcare (which will have the ticker GEHC), GE Vernova (which will handle energy), and GE Aerospace will be the three new firms. GE Aerospace will keep the GE ticker, making it the "true" successor. The process is expected to be completed by early 2024. - Newsom Says He's Not Running – California Governor Gavin Newsom has been making some big moves in national politics, including running ads targeting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in Florida. That has a number of Democrats thinking he could be making a bid in 2024, especially as both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris sink in the polls. However, Newsom has reportedly assured the White House that he will not be challenging the incumbent. I'm Not Sure I Believe Him - Joke's On You, You Trusted Netflix – 2019 really was a lifetime ago. Back then, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings swore Netflix (NFLX) would never do ads. You know what's coming - it's doing ads. A cheaper subscription option (with ads) and a partnership with Microsoft to expand the ad operation will now be core parts of the business. Of course, ads may jeopardize Netflix's biggest mission right now - finding a way to hold on to subscribers who have been fleeing in droves. - Feds Coming For Amazon? – Amazon (AMZN) seems unstoppable, but if it has an Achilles heel, it is in its workforce. Now, the Department of Labor is investigating warehouses in three states as the feds launch an investigation of workplace safety. It's a headache the company doesn't need as it is already on the defensive trying to fend off labor organizers. This "tool" earned over $400k in 12 months. He has a lot on his agenda - Russia is in the unenviable position of needing to beg Iran for help, especially when it comes to getting more drones. The United States has threatened sanctions but... is there anything else left to sanction in Iran and Russia? - Turkey Scrambles NATO Expansion Plans – Just when everything was coming along nicely, Turkey upset the board again. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened to freeze Finland and Sweden's bid to join NATO if they didn't keep their promises about cracking down on Kurdish groups. He was especially critical of Sweden, which he said was "not showing a good image" for now. - Russia's Second In Command Almost Assassinated - Nikita Patrushev, secretary of the Kremlin's security council and a former head of the FSB, was rushed to the hospital after a reported assassination attempt. He was reportedly targeted by a "synthetic poison," according to one insider source. Losing him would be a massive blow to Putin, as Patrushev is often spoken of as a possible successor if Putin's health fails. CUTTING EDGE: What[']( Happening In Tech - The Forbidden Fruit – Apple (AAPL) has become the latest tech company reporting that it will slow, if not stop, new hires. The stock fell more than 2% as it was another sign that Silicon Valley may be expecting tough times ahead, even as investors are hoping that the market has already hit bottom. - Brain Implant Approved – In a massive gain for paralyzed patients with ALS and other neurodegenerative disorders, Synchron has made its first implant into the brain of a patient in the United States. The implant should allow the patient, who has lost the use of his body, to email and surf the Internet simply by thinking. It's a defeat for Elon Musk and Neuralink, which now has to play catch-up in this exciting (and let's admit it, somewhat disturbing) new market. - Melting Runway Grounds Royal Air Force – Who would have thought the British would be pining for their usual weather? The massive heat wave slamming the United Kingdom is having national security implications, as the Royal Air Force had to stop using the Brize Norton air base in Oxfordshire. The heat was reportedly melting the runway, possibly causing safety issues. The RAF Meets An Enemy It Can't Defeat - The Sun
(Photo: Corporal Mike Jones/MOD) FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION "Some thought AMC was going to hit $100 or even $1,000 a share because the system itself was going to be delegitimized.  They even expected AMC surging to three-digits or even four-digit prices (yes, I’ve seen people arguing for this)." "That didn’t happen, but AMC has been having a comeback over the last month. It’s up close to 30%." Are we doing this again? Yeah, we're doing it again. Mr. X has had huge success with AMC in the past and the stock is soaring again. But has the age of "meme stocks" come and gone? Read this balanced take on AMC's recent success. Short-term, there may be opportunity... but don't be blind to the dangers of debt.
