Exhausted Market Action and Rising Rates Retail stocks got some bad news this morning after Walmart reported earnings and then promptly fell over 8%. [But it’s not all bad…]( Macy’s was up over 13% at one point before coming back down a bit. The major indices are all down and I expect Thursday will be a wild, volatile ride. The bond market (TLT) is pricing in a zero percent chance the Federal Reserve will continue raising interest rates in December or January. I think that’s a bit premature and we could get a rate hike in January or further down the road. Back to the bond market… If you see TLT breaking to the upside, that means sentiment is strong that rates will go down. That, in turn, is good for retailers and the economy in general. If it breaks down, that would tell us that rates are likely to go higher — and that’s bad for the market. So I’d like to see it break up… The main reason the market has rallied the way it has of late is because the CPI inflation report from Tuesday is telling us that things are getting better. I’ll cover all that and more in this morning’s “Premarket Must Watch” video! In today’s all-new briefing… I’ll take a deep dive into several consumer stocks and earnings… the bond market and ascending triangle trading pattern… gaps in the S&P 500 and QQQ… if small caps are ready to sink again… seasonality ahead… global economy review!
