Employment also came in just above expectations according to Friday’s December jobs report. These two pieces of data show the Federal Reserve might be making some progress as it raises interest rates to tamp down inflation. Meanwhile, the stock market is still in a lull, preparing for investors to return in full force next week. We had two holiday-shortened trading weeks in a row, and a lot of traders took off. The algorithms Wall Street uses rely on demand from retail investors, and they can’t generate big volume on their own. Next week, I expect the algos to start moving, which should drive some of the major indexes through key price levels.
