Educator Bold, irreverent and unforgettable, Frida Kahlo created intriguing and sometime disturbing works of art that speak of her vibrancy and tragedies and defy simplistic readings. She has become a symbol of often contradictory attributes: strength and tenacity before tragedy and pain, devotion to her countryâs history, creativity in her artwork and in her vibrantly colored traditional Mexican dresses and passion in her difficult relationship with Diego Rivera. Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. (ET) / 11:00 a.m. (PT) [Located in: ]Online [Lincoln Center, a West Side Story]( With John Kriskiewicz
Architect & Educator Marked for demolition as a slum that inspired the 1957 play, âWest Side Story,â scenes for the 1961 movie were filmed on this very site just as the district gave way to a glittering preforming arts center and a new high-rise neighborhood. The real story includes ethnic and racial tensions, urban renewal, the Cold War, and architectural and political rivalries that played out as the consensus of the 1950s gave way to the tumult of the 1960s. Letâs explore the dramatic story that brought Lincoln Center into being in the middle of the 20th Century, and watch as it is reimagined for the 21st Century. This presentation traces the early years of his career, from a struggling musician operating out of his garage to pop music mogul and co-founder of A&M Records. A dramatic career that took off quickly in a matter of a few years. One-hour lecture plus Q&A: $25 [Sign up here](

Archaeologist & Educator With small picturesque ports, lively tavernas, and blue-domed churches clustered alongside white sandy beaches, the Cyclades are many peopleâs idyllic vision of Greece. The islands have a long and rich history which is explored in this lecture through the religious art produced there over the last five millennia. The lecture will examine the iconic minimalist figurines of the prehistoric âCycladic Culture,â known to have influenced modern artists such as Pablo Picasso and Henry Moore. We will look more closely at some familiar (and less familiar) masterpieces of Classical Greece produced in the islands, including the Venus de Milo, and navigate the development of Greek Christian art in the islands through to the modern period.
