Welcome to the 1st edition of Provocative Thoughts, a short newsletter and update focused on your financial future.
Most financial advisors say you can't predict the future.
These âexpertsâ claim you can't pick a market's top or bottom. And since you (or they really) can't predict the future, they advise that you just leave your money with them for the long term.
For most people, this is good advice. But for those who want to get rich, being ahead of the future is one of the best ways to amass wealth.
The best way to predict the future is to study the past, or prognosticate.
My rich dad often said:
"There's a difference between a fortune-teller and a prognosticator."
That's why rich dad encouraged me to take the study of history seriously.
When listening to prognosticators you have to focus on keeping an open-mind.
Â
As the saying goes, "Your mind is like a parachute - it only works when it's open."
Â
Rather than object, question, and criticize - as your mind will naturally want to do - I challenge you to study the predictions you hear. Are they similar to past prognostications? Are they derived from a solid study of history?
My study of the past, and thus the future, has radically altered my thinking, my businesses, and my investment strategies. Even to the point where I was able to predict the 2007/8 real estate crash, the fall of the dollar, and the rise in commodity prices.
Â
I'll continue to keep my mind open and peer into the future but I donât peer into the future alone. This week Kim and I are appearing with some of the smartest people weâve ever met, Jim Rickards, Nomi Prins and Ted Siedle. Together we will examine our past and predict the future.

Rich Dad Scam #3: âWork Hardâ
People often talk about a scam as a con. Con is short for confidence. A con man can only dupe you if you put your confidence in him. When I talk about Rich Dad Scams, the scams designed by the rich to keep you poor, one of the hardest things to get past is that so many of us have been taught to believe with conviction and confidence that these scams are true. And the conning started so young that we never had a chance to think differently.
This post is about one of the biggest, most-ingrained Rich Dad Scams: If you work hard, you will be rewarded. [Read more here](.
