The sweetest email you’ll read all day The best candy, according to us It?s time to stock up

The sweetest email you’ll read all day [The Checklist Logo]( The best candy, according to us It’s time to stock up on your Halloween candy. And while we can’t objectively test all of the season’s candies and give you scientific backing on the best candy for your trick-or-treater bowl, we can definitely fight about it. Today, we’re talking all things candy — the best, the worst, and the “meh” of it all. Our staffers spent some time debating (read: yelling at each other on Slack) about Halloween candy, all to find the best candy out there. We also conducted a survey to formalize the Candy Opinions™. But what do you think? Give us your wildest candy take in [this survey](. We’ll follow up with the results in the next few weeks. I’ll leave you with my hottest Halloween candy take: someone throw out the pink Starbursts. Have a sweet weekend, Sara Beth Bolin Newsletter Writer Recommendations are independently chosen by Reviewed's editors. Purchases you make through our links may earn us a commission. Photos by Getty Images / jenifoto / Target / Amazon / Reviewed Sweet Victory We asked nearly 50 Reviewed staffers for their hot (and cold) takes on all things Halloween candy — fruit candy vs. chocolate, best artificial candy color, and the worst thing you could get trick-or-treating. Once we gathered all our data, we determined the most correct candy opinions, including an answer to the question: Which candy is the best? AND THE WINNER IS... [Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups](. If there’s one thing we know, it’s the value of a good chocolate and peanut butter combo. With more than 40 options and a write-in field, our staffers crowned Reese’s Cups king of the candy bowl. “It’s literally what people think of when you say ’candy.’ It’s the best candy, that’s why it has about 500 variations.” — Kate Ellsworth, managing editor of partner content “It even takes the edge off of hunger pangs. In a pinch, I can lie to myself and say that since they have peanut butter in them, they aren’t 100% trash for my health.” — Janelle Randazza, parenting staff writer ON CHOCOLATE VS. FRUIT CANDY When it came time for chocolate and fruit candy to battle, [chocolate]( won a decisive victory with 77% of our staff’s support. They said that, to them, chocolate feels more genuine than artificial candy flavoring. “With the help of enkephalins, a chemical that reacts with opioid receptors in your brain, chocolate can satisfy that craving better than fruit candies do.” — Jon Chan, lab manager “Chocolate tells your brain to be happy in a way that no fruit ever can.” — Danielle DeSiato, kitchen & cooking editor THE CANDY CORN CONUNDRUM Although [candy corn]( might be what you think of when talking about Halloween candy, it turned out to be a divisive subject among our staffers. We thought everyone would absolutely love or hate it, but half of us think it’s good for about 10 pieces and, after that, not so much. “I understand that it tastes like wax and sadness, but it fills a hole in my taste buds I didn’t know I had. And if I have to suffer through it once a year, I’ll gladly do it.” — Melissa Rorech, senior multimedia editor “It takes approximately 10 pieces for your brain to catch up and wonder why you’re eating wax.” — Meghan Kavanaugh, executive editor of home & labs THE BEST STARBURST FLAVOR While this newsletter writer may strongly disagree, out of the [four original flavors]( more than half of our staff chose the pink Starburst as their favorite. And, surprisingly, Starburst got some of the most hot takes of them all. “The best thing Starburst ever did was to have the [FaveREDs]( bag! The orange and yellow are just filler as far as I’m concerned.” — Anthony Palliparambil, Jr, style editor “Starbursts are tasty for something that doesn’t look like it could (or should) be broken down by the body.” — Ryan Martinez, production manager [Read more hot fireball takes]( including which candy an editor compared to “animal poop.” CAN'T-MISS DEALS # Get BOGO 50% off costumes at Target Still searching for your perfect Halloween costume?
