My job is to treat malnutrition in a refugee camp in Kenya. Please consider supporting the IRC’s work. [International Rescue Committee logo.]( "Sometimes we go without food for days. The babies sometimes sleep hungry too." — Judith, Kakuma Refugee Camp, Kenya [DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT »]( {NAME} - When Judith brought her baby Vanessa to us, her hair and skin were dry and brittle. Vanessa was so malnourished, she wasn't even smiling. Severely malnourished children's bodies start to shut down to preserve as much energy as possible. They lose their appetites and they stop playing, laughing or really interacting at all. At this stage of illness, regular food isn't enough. Children like Vanessa need specialized therapy to recover from malnutrition, but right now only about 1 in 5 malnourished children receive the life-saving treatment they need. [{NAME}, you can help change that with a gift to the IRC that can go 2x as far right now.]( Thanks to a few generous supporters, for a limited time your gift can have twice the impact for the children I care for here in Kakuma Refugee Camp in Kenya, for example, and other people in crisis around the world. [DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT »]( Vanessa's family is not alone. We're seeing more and more cases of malnutrition here in Kakuma and around the world as conflict and climate shocks make it impossible for many families to find enough to eat. In some places, rations for refugees have needed to be cut. Here in Kakuma my patients are only receiving about 18 days worth of food per month — which makes your support of the IRC even more critical to helping children like Vanessa survive. [Can you make a generous gift before the end of the month while it can double in impact?]( [Right now $36 doubles to $72, enough to purchase two months’ worth of nutritious food for a child.]( [And $115 doubles to $230, which can provide a child with nutritious food and medical care during a course of treatment for malnutrition.]( [Dr. Sila checking on Vanessa, who is sitting in her mother's lap]( Here's a picture of me (on the left) checking on baby Vanessa Thanks to support from people like you, we were able to treat Vanessa at our stabilization center and she's recovering well. Vanessa's smile came back. Seeing Vanessa smiling and playing like a healthy baby made me so happy. Her story is a reminder that malnutrition is highly treatable — if a child has access to treatment. Being able to see a child go back to their family happy and healthy helps keep me going. I decided to become a doctor and enter the humanitarian field in order to reduce suffering. I'm guessing that's also one of the reasons why you have chosen to get involved with the IRC. That's why I wanted to write to you today to share about our work. [I hope you'll take this chance to make a really incredible impact while your support can go 2x as far.]( Thank you for reading my email and for your continued support.
