Can you imagine learning that they are facing malnutrition? This story hit close to home for me... [Ibrahim sitting in his mother's lap](
{NAME}, there are some stories that hit a little closer to home for me. I can't imagine worrying about my beautiful baby boy starving. He's just days away from turning one. It's an exciting time, as he learns something new every day. He is full of energy and vigor â and he makes me smile wider than I ever thought possible. He means the world to me. {NAME}, I'm sure you have children in your own life who mean the world to you, too. Can you imagine learning that they are facing malnutrition? Ibrahim (pictured above), a nine-month-old infant in Nigeria, was recently admitted to an IRC stabilization unit for malnutrition. His mother, Falmata, fled her home escaping violence during a political insurgency. Now a new mother, Falmata overcame unfathomable obstacles to care for her family and new baby, only to find out baby Ibrahim showed signs of acute malnutrition. Fortunately, malnutrition is treatable. Ibrahim only spent 12 days in the clinic, receiving critical care from the IRC Community Health Team before being able to return to his family. Over the past decade, the IRC has developed a simpler, more efficient way to diagnose and treat malnutrition â which means more children like Ibrahim can make a full recovery. But this life-saving support would be impossible without you, {NAME}. [Only 1 in 5 malnourished children receive the care they need â which is why generous donors are pledging to 2X-MATCH all donations we receive through the end of the month. ANYTHING you donate will make a deep and meaningful difference for children like Ibrahim and their families »»]( [RUSH A GIFT NOW »](
{NAME}, families fleeing violence need shelter, safety and nutritious foods while they make some of the hardest decisions of their lives. I can't imagine remaining a rock for my family while watching my baby grow thinner and thinner. My IRC Nutrition Team colleagues told me that babies and children with extreme malnutrition grow thin, weak and lethargic. They have near constant diarrhea. Their muscles atrophy, as all but their body's most essential systems shut down. Their bodies are far less capable of fighting off infection. On top of the physical symptoms, they emotionally withdraw, becoming disengaged with the world around them. But again, it is treatable. Treating children for malnutrition is more than curbing hunger â it's about empowering parents with educational resources, supplying nutritious, peanut-based ready-to-use-therapeutic food (RUTF) to help the child gain needed nutrients, and providing water treatments for home use if there are other underlying causes of the malnutrition, like a water-borne infection. The IRC is committed to ensuring children in need receive sustained support to live full, healthy lives. [Unwrapping an RUTF](
[All of this support needs you, {NAME}. I'm asking you to join other committed supporters to make a 2X-matched gift today. Every gift through the end of the month will be used to support the IRCâs work helping children and families worldwide â wherever it's needed most. »»]( [DOUBLE MY GIFT »](
